The shape of the Shimano D2 rims has been optimized to cope with frontal and side winds. Extensive wind tunnel and road studies have shown that a wide rim profile with deep rim tape and flow angles of 0 to 15 degrees reduce air resistance the most. At the same time, this rim shape increases the lateral rigidity of the wheel and improves its vertical flexibility, which guarantees more control, comfort and durability.
Cup and Cone Bearing
The load capacity of conical type angular contact ball bearings (Cup & Cone) is higher than that of sealed industrial bearings, because they distribute lateral and vertical forces better and therefore operate particularly evenly and durable. They are also easier to adjust, maintain and replace.
E-Thru is a tool-free thru-axle system from Shimano that optimizes the stiffness-to-weight ratio and allows easy handling thanks to its reliable internal cam mechanism. It is characterized by high torsional resistance and thus allows cornering at high speed. E-Thru hubs and thru axles are available in matching widths for front and rear.
Direct Engagement
Shimano 's Direct-Engagement freewheel is a toothed disc freewheel that has the advantage of a much larger contact area than ratchet systems. This makes training more rigid. In addition, thanks to its spiral shape, the outer toothed disk and the toothed disk of the hub mesh securely with each other. This results in highly efficient and reliable energy transfer.
Shimano OPTBAL is a type of asymmetrical rear spoke that uses more spokes on the cassette side than on the opposite side. Symmetrical 1:1 shelving can, in combination with modern cassettes with larger dimensions, result in uneven shelf tension, which places excessive strain on the shelves on the right. These spokes are therefore more likely to break or their nuts to come loose. OPTBAL counteracts this tendency, balances the tension of the spokes and thus increases the rigidity, stability and durability of the wheel.
