The essence of 30 years of racing experience: the Assegai folding tire from Maxxis

Two years of development flowed into the Maxxis Assegai, Greg Minnaar's signature tire, along with the essence of 30 years of racing experience and the expertise of 50 years of tire production.

My idea was to develop a tire by combining the best MAxxis profiles. I started in the center with a combination of Minion DHF and Minion DHR II. The reason: the surface of the DHF rolls well and holds the road well on hardpack, in slippery corners and on wet roots. The DHR II rides even better and brakes more aggressively.
Then I looked into the idea of an extra lug for more support and a consistent feel when cornering on the outside lugs. This already brings us to my favorite tire: the HighRoller. Maxxis engineers and I re-engineered the HighRoller's outer lugs so it had the same specs as the original. But the support of those extra lugs is the ultimate flat cornering companion. Finally, I copied the stud height from the Shorty. The lugs are well supported, allowing the raised profile to grip well in wooded, dry and dusty terrain.

Manufacturer's Notes:

Maxxis strongly advises against the use of an ammonia-based sealing fluid. Ammonia has been shown to attack the carcass and can weaken it by 30% in just a few months, depending on the amount used.
Maxxis recommends the use of Tire Plasma Sealant Fluid.

3C MaxxTerra

The ideal 3C compound for Enduro and Freeride tires. Effortless driving uphill and good grip downhill as well as a long service life characterize this compound. The Maxxis 3C running surface is formed from a single piece made of three different rubber compounds, not two bands joined together later. The tread surfaces can thus be formed exactly according to the requirements of each tire model, thereby optimizing the driving characteristics.

EXO+ Protection

This carcass combines EXO Protection with SilkShield puncture protection for even more protection and safety. The sidewalls are more stable, the penetration protection is significantly improved and the puncture protection on the running surface completes the package.

Wide Trail Casing (WT)

This construction optimizes the profile and shape of the tire for wider modern rims. Traditional tires are developed for narrower rims and get too square of a shape on wider rims, which hurts performance. WT tires are optimized for an inner rim width of 35mm, but also work perfectly on all rims with an inner width of 30 - 40mm.

Tubeless Ready

Tubeless tires have several advantages: they can be used with lower pressure. This achieves better traction and lower rolling resistance. And without an inner tube, the risk of a puncture also decreases. Maxxis TR tires are better prepared for mounting with sealing fluid than other "Tubeless Ready" tires. The bead of the Maxxis TR tires is completely covered with a layer of rubber, like genuine UST tubeless tires. This guarantees a successful tubeless mounting for all popular rims and sizes from the first inflation and without having to use a lot of fluid.
