The Midstep, the accessible version of the FX+ 7. The FX+ 7 Midstep keeps the TQ HPR50 mid-drive motor, discreet and quiet, and its 360 Wh TQ battery, but its Alpha Platinum frame has a sloping top tube that lowers the step-over height. Its size range goes down to XS, for riders from 147 cm according to Trek, with the same carbon fork and the same integrated bar-stem.

In short: the FX+ 7 Midstep weighs 19.30 kg in size M according to Trek and opens the FX+ 7 up to shorter riders. It keeps the TQ motor, the carbon fork and the 11-48 cassette of the straight-frame version.

The 10-speed Shimano CUES drivetrain uses Linkglide technology, designed to last under the torque of an electric motor. With an 11-48 cassette, you keep a very low gear for steep climbs, and the 46-tooth chainring lets you ride quickly on the flat.

The MIK rack takes clip-on baskets and panniers, and the Pletscher Comp 18 kickstand holds the bike steady while you load it. The discreet, progressive TQ motor stops assisting at 25 km/h; beyond that, the bike's moderate weight keeps it pleasant to pedal.

Our take: with identical equipment to the Alpine Blue version, this green Midstep comes down to colour alone. If you prefer a straight top tube, the FX+ 7 is also available in this shade; at 17.65 kg, the FX+ 2 LT Midstep is lighter at the cost of 10 Nm less torque.
