The Trek Inbound+ 2 B Lowstep in Dark Star features a deep, plain black that goes with everything. Low aluminium frame, Bosch motor in the rear hub, 360 Wh battery and Gates belt: the mechanics are reduced to the bare essentials. It weighs 20.50 kg in size M according to Trek, and leaves the shop with mudguards, rack and kickstand.

Who is it for?

For the parent juggling school, work and errands during the day, getting on and off the bike twenty times and with no time to look after a chain. It also suits smaller riders, since the Lowstep comes from size S, intended for 147 to 155 cm.

The LVR workshop view

Lowstep and belt drive: get on without lifting your leg. The Lowstep frame drops the top tube right down: you step through in front of the saddle when stopped, even in a skirt or with a bag on the rack. Here Trek pairs it with a single-speed Gates Sidetrack drivetrain, a toothed belt that needs neither oil nor degreaser. The Alpha Smooth aluminium keeps the cables inside the tubes.

In short: at 20.50 kg in M, the Inbound+ 2 B LS is the lightest version in the entire Inbound+ 2 range. Low frame, belt drive, 360 Wh: it's the electric city bike pared down to the essentials, for riding in everyday clothes without ever thinking about the mechanics.

Get on, get off, set off again: on an urban journey punctuated by lights and stop signs, the low frame saves time and energy at every stop. The Bosch hub motor gets you going gently, with no surprises, and its assistance cuts out at 25 km/h. The Shimano hydraulic brakes on 180 mm rotors offer strong, well-modulated braking, whether the bike is loaded or not.

In the workshop, this Inbound+ asks for little: the belt just needs a tension check, the hydraulic brakes self-adjust as the pads wear, and the PowerTube battery stays protected inside the frame. In winter, if you ride less, store it half charged, somewhere dry at room temperature: it will hold its capacity better.

Our take: with the same low frame, this black is the most discreet of the three B Lowstep colours. Compared with the B 540 LS (21.40 kg in M), it weighs 900 g less but has 180 Wh less: choose according to how long your day is.

LVR sizing advice

The Lowstep comes from size S, which Trek intends for 147 to 155 cm. Thanks to the low frame, step-over is hardly an issue: you choose mainly by saddle height and riding position. Sizes S and M have a 70 mm stem, L and XL a 110 mm stem.
