The Trek Domane SL 6 AXS in Matte Nightshade, a deep mauve with a matt finish, is aimed at those who count their rides in hours rather than average speed. For the randonneur who lines up 200 km audaxes, the cyclist who sets off for the day with two bottles and full pockets, or the rider who strings together the stages of a short weekend cycling trip. The 20 mm riser bar and -7° stem relieve your neck and lower back as the hours go by, while the 35 mm tyres smooth out worn-out country roads.
OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. Trek has been developing its OCLV carbon since 1992: the fibre layers are compacted under heat and pressure to drive out the micro-voids that weaken a frame. The series number indicates how optimised the layup is: the higher it is, the less material is needed to achieve the same stiffness and strength. OCLV carbon frames benefit from the Trek lifetime warranty.
| OCLV 500 (Domane SL) | OCLV 900 (Domane SLR) | |
| Level | Entry-level carbon of the road range | Trek's most advanced carbon |
| Construction | Robust layup, slightly more material | Rigid 3D moulding, fewer fibre overlaps |
| Gen 5 Domane frame | approx. 1,055 g | approx. 835 g (unpainted, size ML) |
| What it means | Tough, comfortable frame, more affordable price | About 220 g less on the frame; up to 20 % stronger than the previous OCLV 800 |
For a long-distance rider, the 220 g separating OCLV 500 from OCLV 900 count for little: over a whole day, it is the position, tyre suppleness and easy gearing that decide how your legs feel at the finish.
Without IsoSpeed, this Domane relies on a round 27.2 mm carbon post that works over bumps and on a 35 mm tyre that can be run at low pressure. The frame contains no moving parts to keep an eye on, and the threaded T47 bottom bracket is simple to remove and regrease at service time.
The low 35x36 gear is your trump card for climbing back up towards the Caroux or the Col de la Croix de Mounis at the end of a ride, when fatigue sets in. The AXS batteries are charged the night before like a phone; only the 50 mm rims need a little attention when the sea wind blows across the coast.
| Model | Carbon | Drivetrain | Wheels | Weight (ML) |
| Domane SL 5 | OCLV 500 | Shimano 105 mechanical | Aluminium | 8.84 kg |
| Domane SL 6 AXS | OCLV 500 | SRAM Rival AXS wireless | Carbon 50 mm | 8.64 kg |
| Domane SL 7 AXS 1x | OCLV 500 | SRAM Force XPLR 1x13 + power meter | Carbon 51 mm | 8.14 kg |
| Domane SLR 7 | OCLV 900 | Shimano Ultegra Di2 | Carbon 51 mm | 7.66 kg |
Our take: for long distances, the SL 6 AXS offers a 35x36 that is easier than the SL 5's 34x34, for 200 g less. The SL 7 AXS 1x drops to 8.14 kg, but with bigger gaps between sprockets.

LVR sizing advice For long days, choose the size that keeps your upper body slightly upright: if in doubt, the smaller one is often the more restful. Cranks, handlebar and stem follow the frame size.
Source: Trek size guide. Bike fitting available in our Béziers shop. |
| Suitable for 200 km audaxes? | Yes: upright position, 35 mm tyres and easy gearing all point that way. |
| Which size for 175 cm? | ML according to Trek (173 to 179 cm); at the edge of the range, come and try it. |
| Does a matt finish need special care? | A gentle wax-free cleaner is enough; avoid polishing products. |
| Charging the drivetrain? | The SRAM AXS batteries are charged with the supplied charger; plan ahead before a big ride. |
