Designed for long days in the saddle, the Trek Domane SLR 7 brings together an OCLV Series 900 carbon frame, Shimano Ultegra Di2 2x12 and Aeolus Pro 51 wheels, all for 7.66 kg in size ML. For the sporty randonneur who strings together rides of 150 km and more, the audax enthusiast or the rider planning a light bike trip with a frame bag attached. The upright position of the Pro Riser bar and the wide tyres relieve your back, neck and wrists as the day draws on.
OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. Since 1992, Trek has made its OCLV carbon frames by compacting the fibre sheets under heat and pressure, to eliminate the micro-voids where weaknesses begin. The number after the name reflects how refined the layup is: a high number means less material is needed to achieve the same stiffness. The 900 of the Domane SLR is the top of this scale, covered like all OCLV frames by the Trek lifetime warranty.
| OCLV 900 (Domane SLR) | OCLV 500 (Domane SL) | |
| Level | Trek's most advanced carbon | Entry-level road carbon |
| Construction | Rigid 3D moulding, reduced fibre overlaps | Same process, layup with more material |
| Gen 5 Domane frame | approx. 835 g (unpainted, ML), fork 367 g | approx. 1,055 g (unpainted, ML) |
| What it means | About 220 g less; up to 20 % stronger than the previous OCLV 800 | Tough frame, slightly heavier, more affordable |
In practice, compared with the Domane SL and its OCLV 500, the SLR saves about 220 g on the frame alone thanks to a stiffer 3D moulding that limits fibre overlaps, while also gaining strength. On an endurance bike, those grams are felt mainly when accelerating and on long climbs, not on the flat.
Without IsoSpeed, the comfort of the Gen 5 Domane rests on three simple elements: 35 mm tyres run at low pressure, a round 27.2 mm carbon seatpost that works over bumps and a carbon handlebar with 20 mm of rise. Fewer parts, less maintenance and more natural handling than a pivot system.
The integrated bag mounts and mudguard mounts make it a true touring companion. Di2 is an ally over distance: shifts stay crisp even after hours of rain, and the internal battery charges through a discreet port. Just plan a charge check before a long audax.
| Model | Carbon | Drivetrain | Wheels | Weight (ML) |
| Domane SL 6 AXS | OCLV 500 | SRAM Rival AXS wireless | Carbon 50 mm | 8.64 kg |
| Domane SLR 7 | OCLV 900 | Shimano Ultegra Di2 | Carbon 51 mm | 7.66 kg |
| Domane SLR 7 AXS | OCLV 900 | SRAM Force AXS + power meter | Carbon 51 mm | 7.73 kg |
| Domane SLR 9 | OCLV 900 | Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 | RSL carbon 51 mm | 7.34 kg |
Our take: for long distances, the 70 g gap with the SLR 7 AXS hardly matters; the choice between Shimano ergonomics and the SRAM power meter should decide it. Compared with the SL 6 AXS, you save 980 g and gain an OCLV 900 frame.
