Trek Fuel EX 9.9 X0 AXS Dark Carmine: suspension made for fine-tuning

The Trek Fuel EX 9.9 X0 AXS Gen 7 relies on a very complete RockShox Ultimate suspension package: a Lyrik Ultimate fork with Charger 3.1 RC damper and DebonAir+ spring (150 mm), and a Super Deluxe Ultimate RC2T shock (145 mm). With its OCLV Mountain carbon frame and SRAM X0 AXS drivetrain, it weighs 14.08 kg in a size M. Its Gloss Dark Carmine/Matte Trek Black paint pairs a deep, glossy carmine with a rich matte black.

Who is it for?

It is aimed at the demanding mountain biker who likes to refine settings to suit the terrain and knows what they want from their suspension. It suits the rider who alternates technical rides through the garrigue with fast descents, and wants to tailor the bike to each.

Put simply: same frame as the 9.8 models; the 1.20 kg saving over the 9.8 XT comes down to the kit.

The Charger 3.1 RC offers precise compression and rebound adjustment, and the spring's ButterCups filter out the fine vibrations that tire your hands. On the rough, rocky tracks around Béziers, they make a real difference to comfort after two hours in the saddle.

The Super Deluxe RC2T shock offers compression adjustment and a platform lever for climbing. Combined with the frame's adjustable progression, it lets you fine-tune the bike's behaviour; we offer a set-up session in our workshop.

Our take: the RockShox Ultimate suspension on the 9.9 is the same as on the 9.8 Eagle 90: the gap widens with the carbon wheels, the wireless components and the scales, at 14.08 kg in M, the lightest in the Fuel EX range.

LVR sizing advice

If you are between two sizes, the smaller favours handling on technical trails, the larger composure when the terrain speeds up. The Reverb AXS goes from 150 mm in S to 200 mm from L, and size S uses a 27.5-inch rear wheel.
