For the committed rider who frequents the region's enduro spots, around Lodève, and spends a few days a year at the bike park, but wants a bike that stays pleasant to pedal the rest of the time.
OCLV Mountain carbon, Trek's signature. At the top of the Fuel MX range, the 9.9 X0 AXS keeps the OCLV Mountain carbon frame of the 9.8: a mountain bike carbon compacted under heat and pressure, with fibres laid out to withstand repeated impacts rather than break lightness records. What sets it apart is the kit fitted around it: carbon wheels, carbon handlebar and wireless electronics. Trek lifetime warranty on the frame.
| OCLV Mountain (Fuel MX 9.8 / 9.9) | Alpha NEXT Platinum (Fuel MX 9) | Carbon Fuel EX / LX | |
| Level | Trek's mountain bike carbon, tuned for impacts | Trek's most advanced aluminium | Same Gen 7 Fuel platform |
| Construction | Plies compacted under heat and pressure | Alpha NEXT Platinum alloy | Identical OCLV Mountain carbon |
| Gen 7 Fuel frameset (M) | 3.31 kg (Fuel EX figure) | 4.95 kg (Fuel EX figure) | 3.31 kg for the EX |
| What it means | Around 1.6 kg less on the frame, lifetime warranty | Heavier, gentler on the budget | 145 / 150 mm (EX) or 160 / 170 mm (LX) |
Put simply: on a 9.9, it is no longer the frame that makes the difference but the parts that complete it. The Line Pro 30 carbon wheels and the Race Face ERA cockpit reduce rotating mass and weight up front, which you feel above all when changing direction and accelerating.
The SRAM Maven Silver brakes offer downhill-grade braking power, with four pistons and 200 and 180 mm HS2 rotors. On a long, steep slope, the lever holds its position and modulation stays fine, letting you brake late and enter tight corners with confidence.
The ZEB Ultimate and Vivid Ultimate pairing is also found on the SRAM-equipped Fuel LX models: enduro suspension on a bike that keeps 150 mm at the rear and stays lively under pedalling. On bike park landings, this reserve lets you recover from a line mistake without bottoming out.
| Model | Frame | Travel rear / front | Drivetrain | Weight (M) |
| Fuel EX 9.9 X0 AXS | OCLV Mountain carbon | 145 / 150 mm | Wireless SRAM X0 AXS | 14.08 kg |
| Fuel MX 9.8 XT Di2 | OCLV Mountain carbon | 150 / 160 mm | Wireless Shimano XT Di2 | not disclosed |
| Fuel MX 9.9 X0 AXS | OCLV Mountain carbon | 150 / 170 mm | Wireless SRAM X0 AXS | not published |
| Fuel LX 9.8 XT Di2 | OCLV Mountain carbon | 160 / 170 mm | Wireless Shimano XT Di2 | 15.97 kg |
Our take: at 150/170 mm, this 9.9 X0 AXS sits a notch below the Fuel LX 9.8 XT Di2 (160/170 mm, 15.97 kg in M) and above the Fuel EX 9.9 X0 AXS (145/150 mm, 14.08 kg). The MX 9.8 XT Di2 makes do with a 160 mm Fox fork and aluminium wheels.

LVR sizing advice Between two sizes, choose the smaller one for playful handling, the larger one for stability on long descents. The Fox Transfer Neo goes from 150 mm in S to 175 mm in M and 200 mm above.

| Can it go to the bike park? | Yes, a few days a year; for intensive use, consider tyres with a reinforced casing. |
| Why not a Fuel LX? | The LX adds 10 mm at the rear; the MX stays livelier if you pedal a lot. |
| Maven brake maintenance? | Regular bleeding keeps a consistent lever; we do it in our workshop. |
| Does the mauve stay visible? | Dark in the shade, it reveals its amethyst veins in the sun. |
|
The LVR Cycles verdict The Fuel MX that flirts with enduro, with downhill-grade suspension and brakes on a base that still pedals very well. The deep mauve marbled with amethyst underlines its character.
