The eco-participation for bicycles is an environmental contribution applied when purchasing a new bicycle. It helps to finance the prevention, collection, reuse, repair, recycling and treatment of waste from sporting and leisure goods, including bicycles.
Within the framework of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme for Sporting Goods and Leisure Products, producers, manufacturers, importers, and those placing products on the market must contribute to the end-of-life management of the products concerned. Bicycles and non-motorized personal mobility devices are included in this scheme.
At LVR Cycles , this eco-contribution is paid upfront through the supplier chain, independently of the bicycle's price. It is then passed on to the end customer, because the bicycle buyer becomes the product's user and benefits from the end-of-life management system.
The eco-contribution for bicycles is part of Extended Producer Responsibility, also known as EPR. This principle stipulates that producers contribute to the prevention and management of waste from the products they place on the market.
Bicycles fall under the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme for Sports and Leisure Goods, which was implemented on January 1, 2022. This scheme aims in particular to develop the reuse, repair, collection and recycling of the products concerned.
The eco-participation fee is not a discount, an option, or an accessory. It is a specific environmental contribution, independent of the product price, applied according to the category of bicycle purchased.
LVR Cycles pays this eco-contribution upstream through the supplier chain. It is then passed on to the end consumer, as the bicycle is purchased, used, and then consumed by the end customer.
This contribution helps finance the prevention, collection, transport, and treatment of waste related to the products in question. Contributions paid to eco-organizations specifically cover these costs within the framework of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme.
Eco-participation also contributes to the objectives of reusing and repairing sports and leisure items, in order to extend the lifespan of products where possible.
When a bicycle or some of its components can no longer be reused or repaired, the sector supports their recycling and processing under appropriate conditions.
This contribution helps to improve the management of end-of-life products, with the aim of reducing waste and promoting a more circular economy.
