The black cleat is the most uncompromising of the Keo Grip family: no angular float, so your foot stays exactly where you set it. It's the choice of racers and sprinters who want power transfer without the slightest unwanted movement, and who already have a proven cleat position, ideally from a bike fit. This new generation combines a polyamide body with TPU pads.
The colour tells you the float: black 0°, grey 4.5°, red 9°. With no freedom of movement, the black cleat won't forgive an approximate setup; if you feel any knee discomfort or you're new to clipless pedals, go for the grey instead, which comes as standard with most Look pedals.
Before switching to 0°, mark the position of your current cleats on the sole with a felt-tip pen, then fit the new ones in exactly the same place. Check the bolts after your first ride and replace the pair as soon as the pad rubber is worn smooth or unclipping starts to feel vague.
