The premium sock for long winter rides

S-PHYRE is Shimano's race line, the one behind the shoes worn in the pro peloton. These socks share that same standard, with a blend rich in extra-fine Australian merino wool. Merino does two things synthetics simply can't match: it stays warm even when damp, and it naturally keeps odours at bay. The result is dry feet at the right temperature from the first kilometre to the last, even when the ride stretches on.

S-PHYRE Merino or Performance Wool?

Both are Shimano wool socks, but the wool content is very different. The Performance Wool sock contains 22% wool: it suits spring and autumn and rides of 2 to 3 hours. The S-PHYRE contains 60%, almost three times as much. It is noticeably warmer, softer and better at controlling odour over long days. For autumn sportives, cold-weather gravel or multi-hour winter rides, the S-PHYRE is the one you want.

Workshop tip: wash them at 30 °C, inside out and without fabric softener, which clogs wool fibres. Never tumble dry.
