For the rider who dreams of bikepacking or tours of a few days without dreading the climbing with loaded bags. It is also for those who want to reach the trails from their front door by road, without arriving already tired.
OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. The Checkpoint+ SL 5 gets an OCLV Series 500 carbon frame, Trek's first carbon level, moulded using the in-house process: the plies are compacted under pressure and heat to eliminate voids between the fibres. Trek fits in the TQ motor, the battery and all the wiring without giving up IsoSpeed or the luggage mounts. Like all OCLV frames, it benefits from Trek's lifetime warranty.
| Checkpoint+ SL (carbon) | Domane+ SL (road carbon) | Domane+ ALR (aluminium) | |
| Level | Carbon electric gravel | Carbon electric road | Alloy for road and tracks |
| Construction | OCLV 500, IsoSpeed, luggage mounts | OCLV 500, TQ HPR40 motor | Alpha Series 300, TQ HPR60 motor |
| Reference bike | Checkpoint+ SL 5: 13.81 kg (ML) | Domane+ SL 6 AXS: 12.11 kg (ML) | Domane+ ALR 5: 14.39 kg (ML) |
| What it changes | 42 mm tyres, 50 mm clearance | Lighter, 35 mm tyres | Heavier, 32 mm tyres |
In short: the SL 5 shares the frame, carbon fork and motor of the more expensive Checkpoint+ SL models. The difference lies in the drivetrain, a cable-operated Shimano GRX derailleur instead of SRAM wireless, for almost the same weight as the SL 6 AXS.
A loaded bike quickly gains several kilos: that is where the 60 Nm of the TQ HPR60 really come into their own. The climbs of the Montagne Noire stay manageable at touring pace, and you choose the assist level to spare the 360 Wh battery on a long stage. Slip the charger into your bags and recharge at the gîte.
The integrated chainstay guard protects the carbon from chain slap on rough tracks, and the wiring runs entirely inside the frame, safe from mud. The mudguard mounts are concealed: you forget about them when you are not using them. The Praxis cranks go from 165 mm in XS and S to 172.5 mm in L and XL.
| Model | Motor / battery | Drivetrain | Wheels / fork | Weight (ML) |
| Checkpoint+ SL 5 | TQ HPR60 / 360 Wh | Shimano GRX 1x12, 10-51 | Alloy, carbon fork | 13.81 kg |
| Checkpoint+ SL 6 AXS | TQ HPR60 / 360 Wh | SRAM GX Eagle AXS, 10-52 | Alloy, carbon fork | 13.76 kg |
| Checkpoint+ SL 7 AXS | TQ HPR60 / 360 Wh | SRAM X0 Eagle AXS, 10-52 | Carbon, Rudy XPLR 40 mm | 14.05 kg |
| Domane+ ALR 5 | TQ HPR60 / 360 Wh | SRAM Apex XPLR 1x12, 11-44 | Alloy, 32 mm tyres | 14.39 kg |
Our take: the SL 5 (13.81 kg in ML) stays very close to the SL 6 AXS (13.76 kg); for a touring bike, the cable-operated GRX drivetrain is an asset, because it can be repaired anywhere. The Domane+ ALR 5 (14.39 kg) is more road-focused with its 32 mm tyres.
