Concealed mudguard mounts, rack and bag mounts, an integrated chainstay guard: the Trek Domane+ ALR 5 is as suited to commuting as to weekend rides. Its Alpha Series 300 aluminium frame hides a 60 Nm TQ HPR60 motor and a 360 Wh battery, with a SRAM Apex XPLR 1x12 drivetrain and hydraulic brakes, for 14.39 kg in size ML according to Trek. Who is it for?

For the rider who wants a single bike to get to work, do the shopping and head out on Sundays onto the roads of the Minervois. With assistance that wipes out headwinds, the tramontane is no longer a reason to leave the bike in the garage.

The LVR workshop view

Alpha Series 300 aluminium in service of the TQ motor. For the Domane+ ALR, Trek uses Alpha Series 300 aluminium and builds in everything an everyday rider expects: concealed mudguard mounts, rack and bag mounts, a chainstay guard and a UDH derailleur hanger. The TQ HPR60 motor sits at the bottom bracket, the 360 Wh battery inside the frame, and the fork is full carbon, steerer included.

In short: the ALR 5 shares the TQ HPR60 motor and 360 Wh battery of the latest Domane+ SLR models, on an aluminium frame that is heavier but very well equipped. Its single-chainring XPLR drivetrain and 11-44 cassette make it as much at home on a gravel track as on a mountain pass road.

The concealed mounts let you fit full mudguards without spoiling the bike's lines, and the integrated chainstay guard protects the frame from chain slap on broken roads. The pannier mounts open the way to light touring, with the assist to back you up.

On the handling side, the full-carbon fork and 32 mm tyres filter out small vibrations; the SRAM Apex hydraulic brakes on 160 mm rotors keep braking consistent, even when loaded or in the rain. The TQ HPR60 offers three levels of help capped at 25 km/h, and its LED display connects to your bike computer via Bluetooth and ANT+.

Our take: the ALR 5 and the Domane+ SL 6 AXS are the two single-chainring models in the table; the Domane+ AL 5 (14.06 kg in 56) keeps a 2x11 double and a 40 Nm hub motor. For mixed use, the torque of the TQ HPR60 and its 360 Wh outweigh the small difference in weight.

LVR sizing advice

Six sizes, from XS to XL, cover riders from 143 to 199 cm according to Trek. Between two sizes, the smaller one gives a more upright position, welcome on long rides; cranks, handlebar and stem follow the frame size, as the table shows.
