Trek FX+ 2 LT Midstep Blue Sage: getting on without contortions

The Trek FX+ 2 LT Midstep lowers the top tube of the FX+ 2 LT to make getting on easier, without changing any of the equipment: 40 Nm Hyena motor in the rear hub, 250 Wh battery, hydraulic brakes, mudguards, MIK rear rack and kickstand. It weighs 17.65 kg in size M according to Trek. Blue Sage is a soft, bright sage blue-green.

Who is it for?

For the rider who stops often, at traffic lights, at the shops or outside the school, and wants to put a foot down and set off again without swinging a leg up high. This colour comes in XL, for riders from 186 to 197 cm.

The LVR workshop view

The Midstep, between straight top tube and step-through. This FX+ 2 LT Midstep keeps the mechanics of the FX+ 2 LT, a 40 Nm Hyena motor in the rear hub and a 250 Wh battery in the down tube, but its top tube slopes down towards the bottom bracket. You step over the bike lower than with a straight top tube, while keeping a stiffer frame than a very open Lowstep.

In other words: 17.65 kg in M, 100 g less than the FX+ 2 LT with a straight top tube, for the same full equipment. The Midstep is aimed at riders who get on and off the bike often, at the lights or outside shops.

The Midstep frame keeps a top tube, simply sloped: it therefore retains good stiffness for carrying a loaded pannier, while clearly lowering the step-over height. The Bontrager Sport women's saddle fitted as standard is easy to replace if you prefer a different shape.

The Hyena motor and its torque sensor provide gentle assistance up to 25 km/h, the legal limit. The Shimano hydraulic disc brakes and 40 mm reflective tyres are reassuring on the wet cobbles of the town centre, around the Allées Paul Riquet.

Our take: at 17.65 kg in M, this Midstep is 100 g lighter than the FX+ 2 LT with a straight top tube, with identical equipment. The FX+ 7 Midstep, at 19.30 kg in M, moves to the 50 Nm TQ motor and a carbon fork.
