For someone who hasn't ridden for a long time and wants a bike they can understand in a few minutes. It will also appeal to anyone looking for a bold colour and a bike that gets noticed.
Enviolo: the right ratio, with no steps. This Charter+ 4 Lowstep hands its drivetrain over to an Enviolo City continuously variable hub, driven by a Gates CDX CenterTrack belt. There are no gears in the conventional sense any more: you vary the ratio smoothly, like a slider. The low step-over Alpha Platinum frame keeps its integrated mudguards and rack.

| What it means | Widest gear range | Shifts at a standstill, clean | The ideal gear at any moment |
In short: the Charter+ 4 Enviolo 540 Wh Lowstep is for those who want a smooth ride, with no jolts and no chain maintenance. Trek quotes 31.60 kg in size M, 1 kg more than the Nexus 5 version.
Beginners often pick the wrong gear when setting off. With the Enviolo, you adjust the ratio progressively by twisting the shifter, with no risk of a sudden jump. The 75 Nm Bosch motor, which backs you up to 25 km/h, makes getting going even gentler.
The Shimano MT200 hydraulic brakes work with one or two fingers and brake progressively. The step-through frame lets you put a foot down instantly, a major confidence boost on your first rides.
| Model | Motor / battery | Drivetrain | Fork | Weight (size) |
| Charter+ 4 Nexus 5 belt 540 Wh Lowstep | Bosch Performance Line 75 Nm / 540 Wh | Nexus 5 + belt | 63 mm coil | 30.60 kg (M) |
| Charter+ 4 Enviolo belt 540 Wh Lowstep | Bosch Performance Line 75 Nm / 540 Wh | Enviolo City + belt | 63 mm coil | 31.60 kg (M) |
| Charter+ 4 Enviolo belt 800 Wh Lowstep | Bosch Performance Line 75 Nm / 800 Wh | Enviolo City + belt | 63 mm coil | 32.50 kg (M) |
| Charter+ 5 Auto 540 Wh Lowstep | Bosch Performance Line PX 90 Nm / 540 Wh | Automatic Enviolo + belt | Mobie 34 air 80 mm | 30.60 kg (M) |
Our take: identical to the grey colour, this red is purely a matter of taste. The Enviolo 800 Wh Lowstep (32.50 kg in M) is aimed at longer rides with the same drivetrain.

LVR sizing advice You get onto the Lowstep frame from the front, without lifting your leg: the size is chosen mainly on saddle height and reach. Trek's ranges overlap between M and L (170 to 173 cm); in that case, the smaller size gives a more upright position and the larger one more room for long rides. The height-adjustable stem then fine-tunes the position.
