For Sunday rides that mix back roads and tracks, from the vineyards around Béziers to the coastal paths towards Valras and Sérignan. It will appeal to anyone who wants an off-road bike that's easy to handle when stationary.
An all-terrain Lowstep with a moderate weight. On this low step-over Alpha Platinum base, Trek fits an 80 mm XCR32 coil fork with lockout, Connection Elite tyres with a reflective strip and a flat bar with just 5 mm of rise. The 540 Wh battery, more compact than the 800 Wh, slides in through the top of the down tube and keeps the bike nimble on tracks.
| Charter+ 4 Trail | Charter+ 4 R9 | Charter+ 5 R10 | |
| Fork | XCR32 coil, 80 mm, lockout | SF25 coil, 63 mm | Mobie 34 air, 80 mm |
| Tyres / handlebar | Connection Elite, 720 mm flat bar | E6 Hard-Case Lite, 630 mm bar | E6 Hard-Case Lite, 630 mm bar |
| Reference bike | Trail 540 Wh Lowstep, 27.80 kg (M) | R9 540 Wh Lowstep, 30.80 kg (M) | R10 540 Wh Lowstep, 30.30 kg (M) |
| What it means | Confident on tracks and trails | Road and greenways | More torque, stronger braking |
In short: it's the lightest Charter+ Lowstep according to Trek's figures, 27.80 kg in size M, with the Trail chassis. A good compromise for riders who alternate between greenways, vineyard tracks and back roads.
The 2.40-inch Bontrager Connection Elite tyres have a more pronounced tread than the E6 tyres on the road versions, and a reflective strip on the sidewall. On packed sand or the gravel of a coastal path, they grip better and give you more confidence under braking.
The 540 Wh battery is enough for most half-day rides; the Bosch motor's assistance, cut at 25 km/h, is easy to manage from the Purion 200 control on the bar. On the flat into a sea breeze, a middle mode is often enough.
| Model | Motor / battery | Drivetrain | Fork | Weight (size) |
| Charter+ 4 Trail 540 Wh Lowstep | Bosch Performance Line 75 Nm / 540 Wh | Shimano CUES 9-speed | XCR32 80 mm | 27.80 kg (M) |
| Charter+ 4 Trail 800 Wh Lowstep | Bosch Performance Line 75 Nm / 800 Wh | Shimano CUES 9-speed | XCR32 80 mm | 31.70 kg (M) |
| Charter+ 4 Trail 540 Wh | Bosch Performance Line 75 Nm / 540 Wh | Shimano CUES 9-speed | XCR32 80 mm | 26.80 kg (L) |
| Charter+ 4 R9 540 Wh Lowstep | Bosch Performance Line 75 Nm / 540 Wh | Shimano CUES 9-speed | 63 mm coil | 30.80 kg (M) |
Our take: 27.80 kg in M versus 31.70 kg for the Trail 800 Wh Lowstep: a big difference, in favour of handling. Compared with the R9 540 Wh Lowstep (30.80 kg), you gain the 80 mm fork and the wide bar.

LVR sizing advice You get onto the Lowstep frame from the front, without lifting your leg: the size is chosen mainly on saddle height and reach. Trek's ranges overlap between M and L (170 to 173 cm); in that case, the smaller size gives a more upright position and the larger one more room for long rides. The height-adjustable stem then fine-tunes the position.

| Is it easy to park? | Yes, it's easy to wheel around by hand and stands on its Pletscher kickstand. |
| Can I carry it on a car? | Remove the battery and use a towbar bike rack suitable for e-bikes. |
| Does sand damage the drivetrain? | It wears the chain: rinse it with fresh water and re-lube it after a ride by the sea. |
| Is the green a light shade? | Lichen Green is a soft sage green, somewhere between grey and green. |
|
The LVR Cycles verdict A light off-road Charter+ for the family, pleasant to handle and well shod for tracks. Its sage green gives it a calm look.
