The LVR workshop view

All the torque of the PX in a lighter Charter+. On this Charter+ 5 R10, the Alpha Platinum Lowstep frame houses the 90 Nm Bosch Performance Line PX motor and a 540 Wh PowerTube. The Mobie 34 fork is adjusted with a pump, the sprung seatpost firms up or softens according to your weight, and the Shimano MT420 brakes work on a large 203 mm rotor.

What it meansEasier on hills and with loadsGentle assistance, simplicityNo more gears to choose

In short: you keep the Charter+ 5 equipment with a lighter battery, for 30.30 kg in size M according to Trek. It's the choice for hilly daily commutes, where torque matters more than capacity.

When pulling away from lights on a hill, the 90 Nm of the PX motor gets you going instantly, and the 48-tooth sprocket on the CUES cassette saves you from straining. Assistance cuts out at 25 km/h; in town, you often stay below that, and the 540 Wh capacity comfortably covers repeated short journeys.

The Kiox 500 display can be read at a glance and lets you choose the assistance mode without letting go of the bar. The Trek PRO ergonomic grips support your palm, and the 630 mm bar with 25 mm of rise gives you an upright, relaxed position in traffic.

Which Charter+ should you choose?

Our take: 30.30 kg in M makes it the lightest Charter+ 5 according to Trek. The R10 800 Wh adds 260 Wh for 0.90 kg; the Charter+ 5 Auto 540 Wh (30.60 kg) replaces the derailleur with an automatic belt-driven hub.

LVR sizing advice

You get onto the Lowstep frame from the front, without lifting your leg: the size is chosen mainly on saddle height and reach. Trek's ranges overlap between M and L (170 to 173 cm); in that case, the smaller size gives a more upright position and the larger one more room for long rides. The height-adjustable stem then fine-tunes the position.

Your questions

540 Wh with a 90 Nm motor, does that make sense?Yes, for short or medium journeys; heavy use in a high mode reduces the range.
Why a 203 mm rotor?A larger rotor dissipates heat better and gives more braking power.
How many gears?Ten, with an 11-48 cassette and a Shimano CUES U6000 GS derailleur.
Is the blue glossy?Yes, Covellite Blue is an intense indigo blue with glossy highlights.

The LVR Cycles verdict

The lightest Charter+ 5, with a PX motor built for everyday restarts and hills. Its intense indigo blue gives it a distinguished look.

Pros
+ 90 Nm PX motor
+ The lightest Charter+ 5
+ Kiox 500 display
