Light for an endurance bike, the Trek Domane SLR 9 Gen 5 weighs 7.34 kg in size ML thanks to its OCLV Series 900 carbon, Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 2x12 groupset and Aeolus RSL 51 wheels. On the slopes, this lightness combines with a fairly upright position for holding long climbs without tensing up. Its Serpentine paintwork pairs a very dark red with a brighter red, a colour that won't go unnoticed at the top of a col.

For the regular climber who collects the cols of the Caroux, the Espinouse or the Montagne Noire and no longer wants to choose between low weight and comfort. It is also an excellent companion for a mountain trip for anyone preparing a sportive with a demanding profile.
OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. On a climb, every gram of the frame is felt, and that is where OCLV 900 earns its place. Born of Trek's 1992 process, which drives out micro-voids through hot compaction under pressure, it is moulded in 3D in a rigid mould, with a minimum of overlaps. On the Domane, this means about 220 g less than an SL frame in OCLV 500, and up to 20 % more strength than the previous OCLV 800. The rest comes from the parts: Aeolus RSL wheels and Dura-Ace make it lighter than the SLR 7, with an identical frame.
| OCLV 900 (Domane SLR) | OCLV 500 (Domane SL) | |
| Level | Trek's most advanced carbon | Entry-level carbon of the road range |
| Construction | Rigid 3D moulding, reduced fibre overlaps | More generous layup with more material |
| Gen 5 Domane frame | approx. 835 g (unpainted, size ML) | approx. 1,055 g |
| What it means | About 220 g less on the frame; up to 20 % stronger than the previous OCLV 800 | Same process, heavier and more affordable frame |
One point deserves thought: 50/34 and 11-34 gearing is more demanding than the 48/35 and 10-36 of the SRAM versions. As the rear derailleur is limited to 34 teeth, the SLR 9 AXS is the one to look at if you want more in reserve on steep gradients. On descents, the 160 mm rotors and the stiffness of the frame give plenty of confidence in hairpins.
Dura-Ace R9250 Di2 keeps a 50/34 and an 11-34 cassette, classic sportive gearing, with crisp shifts even under load. At every service, our workshop updates the Di2 system; the threaded T47 bottom bracket makes bearing replacement simple.
| Model | Carbon | Drivetrain | Wheels | Weight (ML) |
| Domane SLR 7 | OCLV 900 | Shimano Ultegra Di2 2x12 | Aeolus Pro 51 | 7.66 kg |
| Domane SLR 9 | OCLV 900 | Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 2x12 | Aeolus RSL 51 | 7.34 kg |
| Domane SLR 9 AXS | OCLV 900 | SRAM RED AXS 2x12 + power meter | Aeolus RSL 51 | 7.29 kg |
| Domane SLR 9 AXS 1x | OCLV 900 | SRAM RED XPLR AXS 1x13 + power meter | Aeolus RSL 37 | 6.63 kg |
| Domane SLR 9 AXS No. 76 | OCLV 900 | SRAM RED AXS 2x12 + power meter | Aeolus RSL 37 | 7.19 kg |
Our take: with an identical frame, the SLR 9 weighs 320 g less than the SLR 7 (7.34 against 7.66 kg) thanks to Dura-Ace and RSL wheels. The SLR 9 AXS saves only 50 g more, but adds a power meter and a 48/35 that is easier on climbs.

LVR sizing advice Between two sizes: the smaller one if you lack flexibility, the larger one if you have a long torso. Handlebar, stem and cranks follow the size.

| Light enough for the mountains? | Yes, 7.34 kg in ML; the 50/34 and 11-34 do, however, call for strong legs. |
| Fitting a bigger cassette? | No, the Dura-Ace derailleur is limited to 34 teeth; look at the SLR 9 AXS. |
| Braking on descents? | 160 mm hydraulic discs front and rear, very reassuring. |
| Wider tyres? | Possible up to 40 mm without mudguards, for rough mountain roads. |

The LVR Cycles verdict A light, reassuring Domane that makes you want to go and tackle the cols of the hinterland every weekend. We recommend it to the trained climber; if you are looking for easier gearing, look at the AXS version.
