In size S, the Gen 4 Trek Top Fuel 8 rolls on 27.5-inch wheels with a 100 mm dropper post: Trek's choice to keep the bike agile and well proportioned. The Fury Red colour, a bold, vivid red, gives it a sporty character.

For mountain bikers from 155 to 165 cm who struggle to find a full-suspension bike that fits, and for the teenager who already rides well and wants a proper trail bike. It suits sporty rides as well as first technical trails.
Alpha Platinum aluminium, at the heart of the Top Fuel 8. The Gen 4 Top Fuel comes in carbon and aluminium on the same design. This Top Fuel 8 uses Alpha Platinum, Trek's high-end aluminium, with internal storage, a four-position Mino Link and the ABP pivot that keeps the suspension active under braking.
| Alpha Platinum (this bike) | OCLV Mountain (Top Fuel 9.x) | Alpha Silver (Marlin) | |
| Level | Trek's high-end aluminium | Trek's mountain bike carbon | Entry-level aluminium |
| Construction | Hydroformed tubes, smoothed welds | OCLV layup reinforced against impacts | Simpler tubes, hardtails |
| Reference bike | Top Fuel 8: 14.58 kg (M) | Top Fuel 9.8 XT Di2: 14.00 kg (M) | Marlin (hardtail) |
| What it means | The right balance of strength and weight | Less weight, frame with lifetime warranty | No rear suspension |
Put simply: only 580 g separate this Top Fuel 8 from the carbon 9.8 XT Di2. For a rider who mainly rides for fun, it is the easiest gap to accept in the range.
27.5-inch wheels accelerate faster and are easy to place in tight corners; on a small frame, they also leave more room above the rear wheel on descents. On the twisting garrigue singletrack around Béziers, that is a real bonus for agility.
The 100 mm Line Dropper post is sized for size S: it lets you lower the saddle without it sitting too high when fully extended. At handover we check the minimum and maximum saddle height with you, as well as the 780 mm handlebar width, which we can cut down.
| Model | Frame | Travel rear / front | Drivetrain | Weight (M) |
| Top Fuel 5 (Gen 3) | Alpha Platinum alloy | 120 / 130 mm | Shimano Deore 1x12 | 15.60 kg |
| Top Fuel 8 | Alpha Platinum alloy | 120 / 130 mm | Shimano SLX/XT 1x12 | 14.58 kg |
| Top Fuel 8 Eagle 70 | Alpha Platinum alloy | 130 / 140 mm | SRAM Eagle 70 T-Type 1x12 | 14.88 kg |
| Top Fuel 9.8 XT Di2 | OCLV Mountain carbon | 120 / 130 mm | Shimano XT Di2 1x12 | 14.00 kg |
Our take: same frame and same build as the matt black Top Fuel 8, adapted here to size S. For more travel, the Eagle 70 version offers a 140 mm fork; for less weight, the carbon 9.8 XT Di2 drops to 14.00 kg in M.

| Is this bike right for a teenager? | Yes, if they are 155 to 165 cm tall; the S on 27.5-inch wheels suits young mountain bikers very well. |
| Handlebar too wide? | The 780 mm handlebar can be cut down in the workshop to suit your shoulder width. |
| Enough travel? | 120 / 130 mm is enough for most trails; beyond that, look at the Fuel EX. |
| Does the bright red stay looking good? | Fury Red keeps its shine with simple, gentle cleaning. |
|
The LVR Cycles verdict A Top Fuel 8 well thought out for smaller riders, agile and with strong brakes. Its bold, bright Fury Red underlines its playful temperament.
