For the rider getting into MTB marathons and the region's sporty rides, who wants a light race bike that stays comfortable over the distance. It will also suit the mountain biker who rides a lot alone and wants a trouble-free drivetrain.
OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. Trek's carbon expertise relies on high-pressure, high-temperature compaction that rids the fibres of internal defects. The mountain bike version of this process, OCLV Mountain, is tuned to withstand the repeated impacts of the trail. The 9.8 XT Di2 uses its SLR level, the lightest Trek offers, on the same frame as the 9.9 models, with a lifetime warranty.
| OCLV Mountain SLR | OCLV Mountain SL | Alpha Platinum alloy (Procaliber 6 / 8) | |
| Level | Trek's most advanced mountain bike carbon | Standard MTB carbon, same geometry | Trek premium aluminium |
| Construction | OCLV process, layup refined to the maximum | OCLV process, slightly more material | Hydroforming, smoothed welds |
| Reference bike | Supercaliber SLR 9.8 and 9.9 | Supercaliber SL 9.6 and 9.7 | Procaliber 6 and 8 (hardtails) |
| What it means | Lighter frame, reserved for high-end builds | Same IsoStrut, slightly heavier frame | Heavier, no rear suspension |
Put simply: the 9.8 XT Di2 offers the SLR frame and SID SL Ultimate fork of the 9.9 models with Shimano electronic shifting one notch down. It is 600 g lighter than the SL 9.7 GX AXS and 1 kg heavier than the 9.9 XTR Di2, the difference coming mainly from the wheels, chainset and post.
The Kovee Elite 30 carbon wheels are stiffer and lighter than alloy wheels of the same level: they accelerate quickly and hold their line under load. In an event lasting several hours, this gain in liveliness means less energy spent every time you get going again.
The E*thirteen Helix Race carbon chainset, fitted to a BB20-92 bottom bracket, combines lightness and great stiffness. With the 10-51 cassette, it offers even gear steps suited to the rolling hills of the Hauts Cantons, without abrupt changes in rhythm.
| Model | Carbon | Drivetrain | Suspension | Weight (M) |
| Supercaliber SL 9.7 GX AXS | OCLV Mountain SL | Wireless SRAM GX AXS | SID / SIDLuxe | 12.18 kg |
| Supercaliber SLR 9.8 XT Di2 | OCLV Mountain SLR | Shimano XT Di2 | SID SL Ultimate / SIDLuxe | 11.58 kg |
| Supercaliber SLR 9.8 X0 AXS | OCLV Mountain SLR | Wireless SRAM X0 AXS | SID Select+ / SIDLuxe | 11.38 kg |
| Supercaliber SLR 9.9 XTR Di2 | OCLV Mountain SLR | Shimano XTR Di2 | SID SL Ultimate / SIDLuxe | 10.58 kg |
Our take: for a first SLR carbon full-suspension marathon bike, this 9.8 XT Di2 offers carbon wheels and chainset at 11.58 kg in M. The SL 9.7 GX AXS is more affordable but 600 g heavier.

LVR sizing advice If you are between two sizes, the smaller one favours agility, the larger one comfort on long events. The Line Elite post offers 100 mm in S, 150 mm in M and ML, 170 mm in L and XL: a real bonus for descending.

| Comfortable enough for marathon events? | Yes, 110 mm at the front, 80 mm at the rear and 2.4-inch tyres. |
| Is a carbon chainset fragile? | It is designed for XC; a crank protector limits marks from knocks. |
| How much does it weigh in M? | 11.58 kg according to Trek, with tubeless sealant. |
| Is the red vivid? | It is a fairly dark smoky red, livened up by lighter speckles. |

The LVR Cycles verdict A well-equipped Supercaliber SLR for marathon events, with carbon wheels and chainset and a reliable electronic drivetrain. Its speckled smoky red gives it plenty of character.
