No more derailleur cable: the Trek Fuel EX 9 XT Di2 Gen 7 controls its twelve speeds electronically with Shimano XT Di2. Its Alpha NEXT Platinum chassis carries a 36 Factory GRIP X2 (150 mm) and a Float X Factory (145 mm), all slowed by XT M8220 callipers. Trek measures 16.88 kg on a size M; the Lithium Grey/Trek Black Splatter colour blends graphite grey with black splashes.

Designed for the rider who demands perfectly crisp shifting with no cable adjustment while remaining attached to Shimano ergonomics, this Fuel keeps its tune ride after ride.
Alpha aluminium, Trek's expertise. The Fuel EX 9 XT Di2 pairs Shimano's electronic groupset with Trek's most advanced aluminium, Alpha NEXT Platinum, the top tier above Alpha Platinum and Alpha Silver. The frame retains all the Gen 7 options: adjustable progression, geometry changes via interchangeable parts, a down tube storage hatch, a ZS headset and an easy-to-maintain threaded BSA bottom bracket.
| Alpha Silver | Alpha NEXT Platinum | OCLV Mountain | |
| Level | Trek's entry-level alloy | The most refined of the Alpha alloys | Trek's mountain bike carbon |
| Construction | Alpha aluminium, hardtail frame | Alpha aluminium, adjustable Fuel platform | OCLV process tuned for impacts |
| Reference bike | Marlin 4 to 7 | Fuel EX 5, 8 and 9 | Fuel EX 9.8 and 9.9 |
| What it means | Simple and affordable, no rear suspension | 4.95 kg frameset in M, tough and more affordable | 3.31 kg frameset in M, 1.64 kg less |
In short: the Di2 version weighs 16.88 kg in M, 260 g less than the mechanical Fuel EX 9 XT, with identical suspension and brakes. The aluminium frame remains 1.64 kg heavier than the carbon kit, but it gives you electronics without moving to carbon.
XT Di2 shifts electronically: the shifter sends the command to the M8250 derailleur, which positions itself precisely on every shift. No more cable tension adjustments or hesitant shifts after a muddy ride.
We carry out the Di2 configuration and updates in the workshop, and adjust how the shifter behaves to suit your preferences. The drivetrain keeps the durable XT 10-51 cassette, which is easy to replace.
| Model | Frame | Fork / rear | Drivetrain | Weight (M) |
| Fuel EX 9 XT | Alpha NEXT Platinum alloy | Fox Factory 36, 150 / 145 mm | Shimano XT 1x12 | 17.14 kg |
| Fuel EX 9 XT Di2 | Alpha NEXT Platinum alloy | Fox Factory 36, 150 / 145 mm | Shimano XT Di2 1x12 | 16.88 kg |
| Fuel EX 9 X0 AXS | Alpha NEXT Platinum alloy | RockShox Lyrik Ultimate, 150 / 145 mm | SRAM X0 AXS T-Type 1x12 | not disclosed |
| Fuel EX 9.8 XT | OCLV Mountain carbon | Fox Factory 36, 150 / 145 mm | Shimano XT 1x12 | 15.28 kg |
Our take: compared with the cable-operated XT, this electronic version saves 260 g. You need the OCLV Mountain carbon of the 9.8 XT to get down to 15.28 kg, but with a conventional derailleur.

LVR sizing advice If you are between two sizes, go for the smaller if your trails are slow and technical, the larger if you prioritise speed and stability. Post travel follows frame size; the S gets a 27.5-inch rear wheel to keep clearance.
