When should you change your bar tape?

Beyond looks, bar tape polished smooth by use slips under your fingers, especially in the rain or with wet gloves. Replacing it restores grip and control for descents and sprints in the drops.

LVR workshop tip

Start wrapping at the bar end and work up towards the stem, pulling steadily to avoid creases. On a road bike, wrap from the inside outwards, so that the natural rotation of your hands tightens the tape rather than loosening it. Keep a consistent overlap of about a third of the width, then finish with a neat finishing tape. Prefer to leave the job to the workshop? We'll fit it during a service.
