For the mountain biker who already has a few rides under their belt and wants to tackle descents with more confidence, for the rider discovering the singletrack of the Montagne Noire, or for anyone who wants an upgradeable hardtail without moving to full suspension. It remains usable for commuting thanks to its mounts.
Alpha aluminium, Trek's expertise. The Alpha Silver of the Marlin 6 is the same alloy as on the other Marlins, but this model makes better use of its potential: the dropper post routing built into the frame is used here as standard. Trek designed this third generation with a slacker head angle, which makes the bike calmer as the slope steepens.
| Marlin 6 (Alpha Silver) | Marlin 5 (Alpha Silver) | Procaliber 6 (Alpha Platinum) | |
| Positioning | First true trail Marlin | Versatile in town and on tracks | Cross-country hardtail |
| Key equipment | Dropper post, TLR rims | Fork with lockout, rigid post | Higher-grade aluminium |
| Fork | RockShox Judy, 100 mm | Suntour XCT 30, 100 mm | 120 mm |
| What it means | More relaxed descents | Cheaper, less versatile downhill | Livelier, more performance-oriented |
In short: the dropper post is the piece of equipment that most transforms a beginner's mountain biking experience. Being able to drop the saddle with a push at the bar before a descent saves you from stopping and builds confidence. The Marlin 6 is the first Marlin to offer it as standard.
The dropper post lets you lower the saddle with a push at the handlebar before a steep section, then raise it again to pedal. On the singletrack of the Montagne Noire, where climbs and descents follow one another, it saves you from constantly stopping and keeps your centre of gravity low when the terrain gets technical. It is the first upgrade we recommend for progressing.
The Kovee Tubeless Ready rims let you do away with inner tubes: fewer pinch flats and lower pressures for grip. We carry out the tubeless set-up in the workshop. The slack-angle geometry steadies the bike as the slope steepens. This glossy lavender stands out from the usual dark mountain bike colours.
| Model | Fork | Drivetrain | Wheels / tyres | Weight (M) |
| Marlin 4 | Suntour XCE 28, 100 mm | Shimano ESSA 1x8 | 29 x 2.40 in (inner tube) | 14.90 kg |
| Marlin 5 | Suntour XCT 30, 100 mm, lockout | Shimano CUES 1x9 | 29 x 2.40 in (inner tube) | 15.10 kg |
| Marlin 6 | RockShox Judy, 100 mm | Shimano CUES 1x10 + dropper post | Tubeless Ready rims | 15.00 kg |
| Marlin 7 | RockShox Judy Silver air, 100 mm | SRAM NX Eagle 1x12 + dropper post | Maxxis Rekon Tubeless Ready | 14.15 kg |
Our take: compared with the Marlin 5, the Marlin 6 adds the dropper post, a tenth gear and tubeless rims, while weighing 100 g less in size M. The Marlin 7 saves a further 850 g thanks to its air fork.

LVR sizing advice The dropper post travel follows frame size: 100 mm in XS and S, up to 170 mm in XXL. If you are between two sizes, the smaller one leaves more room to move around on the bike when descending.

| What is the dropper post for? | To lower the saddle on the move before a descent, so you can ride more freely. |
| Can it be set up tubeless? | Yes, the rims are compatible; you need suitable tyres and valves, which we fit. |
| Is it made for organised rides? | Yes, it is even more enjoyable than a Marlin 5 on hilly routes. |
| Does the lavender show the dirt? | It is a light colour: dust shows a little, but it wipes off easily. |
|
The LVR Cycles verdict The Marlin that really takes you up a level on descents, thanks to its dropper post and slacker geometry. Its glossy lavender gives it a soft, original identity.
