The third-generation Trek Marlin 6 relies on slacker geometry and a dropper seatpost to widen the playground of an affordable hardtail mountain bike. For the nature lover who enjoys exploring the tracks of the hinterland, from the Espinouse to the plateaux of the Larzac, for the rider who combines mountain biking with small day-long adventures, or for a cyclist looking for a truly versatile hardtail. The rack mounts also let you carry gear.
Alpha aluminium, Trek's expertise. The Alpha Silver of the Marlin 6 is the same alloy as on the other Marlins, but this model makes better use of its potential: the dropper post routing built into the frame is used here as standard. Trek designed this third generation with a slacker head angle, which makes the bike calmer as the slope steepens.
| Marlin 6 (Alpha Silver) | Marlin 5 (Alpha Silver) | Procaliber 6 (Alpha Platinum) | |
| Positioning | First true trail Marlin | Versatile in town and on tracks | Cross-country hardtail |
| Key equipment | Dropper post, TLR rims | Fork with lockout, rigid post | Higher-grade aluminium |
| Fork | RockShox Judy, 100 mm | Suntour XCT 30, 100 mm | 120 mm |
| What it means | More relaxed descents | Cheaper, less versatile downhill | Livelier, more performance-oriented |
In short: the dropper post is the piece of equipment that most transforms a beginner's mountain biking experience. Being able to drop the saddle with a push at the bar before a descent saves you from stopping and builds confidence. The Marlin 6 is the first Marlin to offer it as standard.
The slacker head angle of this third generation steadies the front of the bike at speed and on slopes. On the long tracks of the Espinouse, this calm behaviour reduces fatigue and builds confidence when you are discovering a route. The dropper post rounds things off for more technical descents.
For day rides, the rack mounts let you carry a picnic and clothing, and going tubeless reduces the risk of punctures far from anywhere. We can help you choose suitable bags and equipment. This matt green fade blends into the landscape and hides dust well.
| Model | Fork | Drivetrain | Wheels / tyres | Weight (M) |
| Marlin 4 | Suntour XCE 28, 100 mm | Shimano ESSA 1x8 | 29 x 2.40 in (inner tube) | 14.90 kg |
| Marlin 5 | Suntour XCT 30, 100 mm, lockout | Shimano CUES 1x9 | 29 x 2.40 in (inner tube) | 15.10 kg |
| Marlin 6 | RockShox Judy, 100 mm | Shimano CUES 1x10 + dropper post | Tubeless Ready rims | 15.00 kg |
| Marlin 7 | RockShox Judy Silver air, 100 mm | SRAM NX Eagle 1x12 + dropper post | Maxxis Rekon Tubeless Ready | 14.15 kg |
Our take: for exploring and long rides, the Marlin 6 offers the essential dropper post and 11-48 cassette. The Marlin 7 will be lighter, with an adjustable air fork on top.

LVR sizing advice The dropper post travel follows frame size: 100 mm in XS and S, up to 170 mm in XXL. If you are between two sizes, the smaller one leaves more room to move around on the bike when descending.
