For the young mountain biker who is progressing fast and wants a bike to match, for the rider joining an MTB club and taking part in coached rides, or for anyone who wants to discover the technical singletrack of the Caroux on reliable kit. It will support your progress over several seasons.
Alpha aluminium, Trek's expertise. The Marlin 7 shares the Alpha Silver aluminium of its little brothers: same frame, same geometry, same utility mounts. The weight difference therefore comes not from the frame but from the components: air fork, folding-bead tyres, lighter hubs. It is a good example of a solid frame on which the spec makes all the difference.
| Marlin 7 | Marlin 6 | Roscoe 8 | |
| Frame | Alpha Silver, 29 in wheels (27.5 in XS/S) | Alpha Silver, same geometry | Alpha Gold, Boost, 2.60 in tyres |
| Suspension | 100 mm air fork, adjustable rebound | 100 mm coil fork | 140 mm air fork |
| Weight (M) | 14.15 kg | 15.00 kg | 13.54 kg |
| What it means | The most accomplished Marlin on the trail | Simpler, heavier | More aggressive, built for descending |
In short: 850 g lighter than the Marlin 6, a fork you set to your weight and an 11-50 cassette that climbs almost anything. The Marlin 7 is the entry-level hardtail we recommend when you already know you will be riding trails often.
In an MTB club, you work on technique: steps, tight corners, steep descents. The dropper post frees up your riding, and the air fork, set to the right sag, keeps the bike stable over obstacles. Together, these two features speed up learning considerably compared with a more basic bike.
At 14.15 kg in size M, the Marlin 7 is more agile to handle than a Marlin 6, especially when lifting the front or clearing an obstacle. The 12-speed drivetrain stays crisp and precise even under load. This red and grey fade adds a sporty touch that suits the bike's character.
| Model | Fork | Drivetrain | Wheels / tyres | Weight (M) |
| Marlin 4 | Suntour XCE 28, 100 mm | Shimano ESSA 1x8 | 29 x 2.40 in (inner tube) | 14.90 kg |
| Marlin 5 | Suntour XCT 30, 100 mm, lockout | Shimano CUES 1x9 | 29 x 2.40 in (inner tube) | 15.10 kg |
| Marlin 6 | RockShox Judy, 100 mm | Shimano CUES 1x10 + dropper post | Tubeless Ready rims | 15.00 kg |
| Marlin 7 | RockShox Judy Silver air, 100 mm | SRAM NX Eagle 1x12 + dropper post | Maxxis Rekon Tubeless Ready | 14.15 kg |
Our take: for improving your technique, the Marlin 7 is the best choice among the Marlins. The Roscoe 8 goes further on descents with 140 mm of travel, but moves away from the versatility of the Marlins.

LVR sizing advice The Marlin 7 comes in sizes XS to XXL; dropper post travel and crank length grow with the frame. If you are between two sizes, the larger one gives more stability at speed.
