Trek Precaliber 16 Buff Beige: an understated bike for growing independence

A natural sand shade and simple lines: the Trek Precaliber 16 in Buff Beige makes a change from the loud colours of kids' bikes. Beneath this chamois beige you will find two hand brakes, a freewheel and supplied stabilisers, on 16-inch wheels. Trek quotes 8.35 kg and designs it for children from 99 to 117 cm.

Who is it for?

For parents who prefer a neutral colour that is easy to pass down between brothers and sisters, and for the 4 or 5 year old who is becoming more independent. It is just right for riding to school beside their parents or doing a lap of the neighbourhood.

The LVR workshop view

An alloy frame built for the age of first hand brakes. The Precaliber 16 is based on a kids' aluminium alloy frame and a steel fork. Its real distinguishing feature lies elsewhere: it drops the coaster brake of the 12-inch for two linear-pull brakes, operated by levers on the handlebar just like an adult bike. Your child thus learns the movement they will keep for their whole cycling life.

In other words: 8.35 kg, a single freewheel gear, two hand brakes and stabilisers that fit without tools. Trek designs it for 4 and 5 year olds.

The 500 mm steel handlebar with 80 mm of rise and the short stem keep your child upright, hands at a good height. This upright position helps them look well ahead and anticipate, a useful reflex as soon as they ride near pedestrians.

The handle built into the saddle is still there even without stabilisers: you hold the bike as you walk, your child pedals, and you gradually let go. On the flat paths along the Orb, progress is often quick. A properly adjusted helmet remains essential on every ride.

Our take: the four Precaliber 16 colours are technically identical, at 8.35 kg; beige is chosen for its understated look. For a 4-year-old who is still small, the Precaliber 12 (6.80 kg) remains an option up to 102 cm.

LVR sizing advice

Trek recommends the Precaliber 16 from 99 to 117 cm, for 4 and 5 year olds. When seated, your child should be able to put their feet on the ground and reach the brake levers without stretching their arms. Drop into our Béziers shop with them: a test ride settles the question in a few minutes.
