Who is it for?

For the pre-teen who is starting to ride alone to secondary school or to friends' houses, and for parents who want a sturdy, comfortable bike that can be kitted out. It also suits family rides on greenways and tracks.

The LVR workshop view

An Alpha Silver frame equipped like an adult bike. Trek has given this Precaliber 24 an Alpha Silver aluminium frame with rack and kickstand mounts, a replaceable derailleur hanger and a 135 x 5 mm rear quick release. These are the standards of a grown-up bike: in the workshop, the hanger is easy to replace after a fall, and the bike can be equipped for everyday journeys.

Precaliber 24 suspension	Wahoo 24 Path	Wahoo 24 Trail
Stage	Versatile, all tracks	Roads, greenways	Mountain bike trails
Frame / fork	Alpha Silver alloy / 45 mm fork	Alpha Silver alloy / rigid fork	Alpha Silver alloy / rigid fork
Reference bike	11.90 kg, 130 to 150 cm	9.80 kg, 130 to 150 cm	10.50 kg, 130 to 150 cm
What it means	Comfort on rough ground	Lighter, 8-speed microSHIFT	9-speed, hydraulic discs

In other words: 11.90 kg, an 8-speed 13-34 Shimano Tourney drivetrain, a 45 mm suspension fork and a padded 24-inch saddle. A versatile bike for 8 to 12 year olds that climbs well and soaks up the bumps.

The rack mounts let you add a carrier for the school bag or sports bag: your child rides with nothing on their back, more stable and less tired. The kickstand is fitted as standard, handy outside school or the club.

Eight gears from 13 to 34 teeth cover the sloping streets of central Béziers as well as the long straights of the greenway. For a safe ride to secondary school, add front and rear lights, and remind your child that a helmet is still essential.

Which Precaliber should you choose?

Model	Wheels	Child's height	Gears / brakes	Weight
Precaliber 20 7-speed	20 in	114 to 132 cm	7 speeds, 2 V-brakes, 35 mm fork	10.90 kg
Precaliber 24 suspension	24 in	130 to 150 cm	8 speeds, 2 V-brakes, 45 mm fork	11.90 kg
Wahoo 24 Path	24 in	130 to 150 cm	8-speed microSHIFT, 2 V-brakes	9.80 kg
Wahoo 24 Trail	24 in	130 to 150 cm	9-speed microSHIFT, hydraulic discs	10.50 kg

Our take: at 11.90 kg, this Precaliber 24 weighs more than the Wahoo 24 Path (9.80 kg), but it brings a 45 mm suspension fork. For a mix of everyday journeys and tracks, that 45 mm fork makes the difference.
