Designed for gravel racing, XC and cyclo-cross, the X-Track Race Carbon Ti combines a carbon body and a titanium axle to get down to 145 g per pedal, according to LOOK. It keeps all the strengths of the X-Track mechanism: two sides for clipping back in first time after a run-up, an open design that clears mud, and careful sealing with twin bearings and a labyrinth seal.
These are LOOK's two benchmark lightweight pedals, but their philosophies differ. The Race Carbon Ti plays the instant re-engagement card thanks to its two sides: in cyclo-cross or XC, when you put a foot down several times a lap, that's decisive. The X-One-G Ti offers a much larger platform (650 mm²) and firmer engagement, but on one side only. Between the Race Carbon and this Ti version, the difference comes down to the axle and around thirty grams per side.
In racing, set the tension according to the discipline: fairly low in cyclo-cross so you can get out quickly at every obstacle, a little firmer in XC so you don't unclip when you kick. Check that both pedals are set to the same click, it's a common mistake. And if you're a beginner, the X-Track Easy cleat, with multi-directional release, fits without changing anything else on the bike.
