The pinned aluminium hybrid gravel pedal

Gravel tracks, forest trails, country lanes: the X-Venture+ is made for gravel rides where you never know what's coming next. Its aluminium body carries an SPD-compatible clipless mechanism on one side, and a flat side fitted with pins to grip soft soles on the other. The platform measures 77 x 87 mm and the pedal tips the scales at 190 g (manufacturer data).

X-Venture+ or Geo Trekking?

These two dual-purpose pedals suit different riders. The Geo Trekking, with a 56 mm Q-factor, is aimed at touring, commuting and e-bikes. The X-Venture+ was born for gravel: 53 mm Q-factor, a more compact alloy body and pins for positive grip when riding in trainers. Torn between this and the X-Venture? The latter is slightly wider, with moulded studs and reflectors, while the + version is lighter.

LVR workshop tip

For maintenance, a damp cloth after a muddy ride is all it takes; avoid aiming a pressure washer at the axle. If you often ride on the flat side, choose shoes with flat, flexible soles: they mould better to the pins. On the clipless side, start with a low tension and tighten gradually as unclipping becomes second nature.
