The yellow CL-SL110 and the grey CL-SL130 both offer an angular freedom of ±3° . But they do not have the same role.

The yellow CL-SL110 is one of the three main cleats in the new SPD-SLR system. It is designed for shoes compatible with the new SPD-SLR cleats.

The grey CL-SL130 , on the other hand, is primarily a compatibility cleat . It allows the use of the new SPD-SLR pedals with most 3-bolt road cycling shoes from other brands.

A very simple example

You are buying a pair of new SHIMANO DURA-ACE PD-R9300 or ULTEGRA PD-R8200 pedals.

If your shoes are compatible with the new main SPD-SLR cleats, you can choose your cleat according to the desired freedom of movement: red, blue or yellow.

If your road shoes are not suitable for these new main cleats, the grey CL-SL130 allows you to keep most compatible 3-point road shoes while switching to the new SPD-SLR pedals.

±3° of angular freedom

In addition to its role as a compatibility shim, the CL-SL130 offers an angular freedom of ±3° .

This means that the foot can rotate slightly to the left or right when clipped into the pedal. Shimano specifies ±3°, meaning up to 3° on either side of the center position.

Does the CL-SL130 offer the same advantages as other SPD-SLR shims?

No. The priority of the CL-SL130 is compatibility with existing shoes.

Shimano specifies that it therefore does not benefit from the same low overall height or the same weight savings as the CL-SL100, CL-SL110 and CL-SL120 used with the new generation SPD-SLR system.
