Moving from flat pedals to clipless is a milestone for any road cyclist. The Keo Classic 3 Plus was designed for that moment: a simple spring mechanism, adjustable tension that can be set to minimum for your first unclips, and a stainless platform that's stiffer than the one on the basic Classic 3. It's also perfect for a training bike or a spare bike.
The Classic 3 Plus offers the best value in the range. The Keo 2 Max steps up in contact area, with 500 mm², and lowers the foot slightly, to 17.3 mm. If you ride a lot or over long distances, those extra 100 mm² spread the pressure under the shoe better. For getting started or occasional use, the Classic 3 Plus is more than enough, and it uses the same Keo cleats.
Set the tension to minimum for your first rides and practise clipping in and out while stationary, with one hand against a wall. Always unclip in good time before traffic lights or a junction. As for cleats, a 4.5° float version gives your heel a little freedom, which your knees will appreciate; the red 9° cleat gives even more.
