For the athlete taking on a full Ironman who has to pace their effort over five to seven hours on the bike. It also suits riders who race hilly events, where the 35x33 bottom gear stops you exceeding your target power on the climbs.
OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. OCLV is Trek's in-house process, in place since 1992: heat and pressure drive out the air trapped between the fibre sheets, and the higher the series number, the less material is needed for a given stiffness. The Speed Concept SLR 7 AXS uses Series 800, which was long the top of the brand's road range. Here it makes room for a Bento box and a down tube compartment without weakening the frame, which carries a Trek lifetime warranty.
| OCLV 800 (Speed Concept SLR) | OCLV 900 (Madone SLR) | OCLV 500 (Madone SL) | |
| Level | Trek's former top-end road carbon | Trek's most advanced carbon | Entry-level road carbon |
| Construction | Lay-up optimised for large-section aero tubes | 3D moulding, fewer fibre overlaps | Same process, slightly more material |
| Reference bike | Frame 1,522 g painted + fork 410 g | Madone SLR: frame 796 g (ML) + fork 350 g | Madone SL: frame 1,054 g (ML) + fork 363 g |
| What it means | Stiff and durable, integrated storage and IsoSpeed | Up to 20% stronger than OCLV 800 | Heavier, more affordable budget |
In short: a triathlon frame is not chosen by the gram. The 1,522 g of the Speed Concept are explained by deep sections and integration, assets that save far more time than a hundred grams or so on a fast course.
Over long distances, consistency comes first: going beyond your power zone on a climb costs you dearly in the marathon. The 10-33 cassette and 35-tooth chainring let your legs spin at a good cadence on the climbs, where a 36x30 would force you to push harder.
The integrated storage avoids piling on bags and bottle cages that spoil the aerodynamics: tools and inner tube go in the down tube, gels and bars in the Bento box. On training rides towards the Espinouse, that frees up your jersey pockets.
| Model | Carbon | Drivetrain | Wheels | Weight (size) |
| Speed Concept SLR 7 | OCLV 800 | Shimano Ultegra Di2 | Aeolus Pro 37 | 8.97 kg (M) |
| Speed Concept SLR 7 AXS | OCLV 800 | SRAM Force AXS + power meter | Aeolus Pro 51 | 9.02 kg (M) |
| Speed Concept SLR 9 | OCLV 800 | Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 | Aeolus RSL 51 | n/a (frame 1,522 g) |
| Speed Concept SLR 9 AXS | OCLV 800 | SRAM RED AXS + power meter | Aeolus RSL 51 | n/a (frame 1,522 g) |
Our take: for an Ironman, the combination of power meter, storage and 35x33 gearing makes this SLR 7 AXS a more complete choice than the SLR 7, for just 50 g more in M.

LVR sizing advice Between two sizes, do not decide from the chart alone: the aero position depends on your flexibility and the height of the extensions. We set up the mid-rise bar and seatpost offset during the bike fit.

| Enough gears for the mountains? | The 35x33 helps on hilly courses; beyond that, a road bike is still preferable. |
| Can I carry my gels on board? | Yes, the integrated Bento box is designed for exactly that. |
| 165 mm crank in size S? | Yes, according to Trek, for this specific colourway. |
| Does the power meter need calibrating? | A zero offset before each ride is enough; we will show you how. |

The LVR Cycles verdict The SLR 7 AXS best suited to Ironman, in a discreet matt smoked grey. The power meter and storage make it a race management tool more than simply a fast bike.
