The Trek Madone SLR 9 AXS Gen 8 is first and foremost an aero bike: its Full System Foil tubes were designed with the bottles in mind, and its OCLV Series 900 frame keeps the total to 7.00 kg in size ML. It comes with the wireless SRAM RED AXS E1 2x12 groupset with power meter and Aeolus RSL 51 carbon wheels. The Matte Deep Smoke colourway, a deep matt smoked grey, highlights the lines of the frame without drawing the eye.

For the strong rider who likes to do turns on the front at over 35 km/h, the cyclist who lines up in amateur time trials on a classic road bike, or the rider who prefers an understated machine to flashy paintwork.
OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. On this Madone SLR 9 AXS, Trek uses OCLV Series 900, the pinnacle of carbon expertise that began in 1992. The principle never changes: each stack of fibres goes into a heated press to eliminate the air bubbles that would weaken the structure. The 3D moulding specific to Series 900 limits the areas where plies overlap, resulting in a painted frame of 796 g in ML and a 350 g fork. Like every OCLV frame, it benefits from the Trek lifetime warranty.
| OCLV 900 (Madone SLR) | OCLV 500 (Madone SL) | OCLV 800 (Speed Concept) | |
| Level | Trek's most refined carbon | Entry-level road carbon | Trek's former top-end road carbon |
| Construction | 3D moulding, reduced ply overlaps | Same process, more generous lay-up | Proven lay-up, integration comes first |
| Reference bike | Madone SLR: painted frame 796 g (ML), fork 350 g | Madone SL: painted frame 1,054 g (ML), fork 363 g | Speed Concept SLR: painted frame 1,522 g |
| What it means | 271 g less than the SL on frame and fork; up to 20% stronger than OCLV 800 | Same aero shapes, separate bar and stem, gentler budget | Still very high-performing, reserved for triathlon at Trek |
Put simply: between a Madone SL and this SLR, the 271 g difference on the frame and fork is felt mainly on long climbs and when accelerating. The real leap of the SLR 9 AXS also lies in what it comes with: RED E1 groupset, power meter and one-piece bar/stem, three features you will not find together further down the range.
Trek designed the bike and bottles as a single profile: the RSL Aero bottle cages and their 595 ml bottles extend the tubes instead of disrupting the airflow. They also take standard round bottles, which is handy at race feed stations where you take whatever you are handed.
Our flat roads, from the Biterrois to the Narbonnais, are often swept by the tramontane: the 51 mm wheels stay manageable in a moderate crosswind, better than deeper rims. For the windiest rides, we recommend running the 28 mm tyres at slightly lower pressure to improve road holding.
| Model | Carbon | Drivetrain | Wheels | Weight (size) |
| Madone SLR 7 AXS | OCLV 900 | SRAM Force AXS | Aeolus Pro 51 carbon | 7.22 kg (ML) |
| Madone SLR 9 | OCLV 900 | Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 | Aeolus RSL 51 carbon | 7.05 kg (ML) |
| Madone SLR 9 AXS | OCLV 900 | SRAM RED AXS E1 + power meter | Aeolus RSL 51 carbon | 7.00 kg (ML) |
| Madone SLR 9 AXS 1x | OCLV 900 | SRAM RED E1 1x12 + power meter | Aeolus RSL 37 carbon | 6.40 kg (ML) |
Our take: for a strong rider, the difference lies less in the 50 g gap with the SLR 9 Dura-Ace than in the power meter supplied here. The 1x at 6.40 kg loses the close gear steps you need to hold a steady speed.

LVR sizing advice Race geometry: between two sizes, the smaller one lowers the front end, the larger one spares your back. As the bar/stem is a single piece, changing stem length means changing the whole cockpit: it is best to get it right from the start.

| Real gain over a round-tubed bike? | Trek measures 77 s per hour at 200 W against the Émonda, bottles included. |
| 51 mm wheels and the tramontane? | Manageable in moderate wind; in strong wind, lower pressure and take care. |
| Time trial extensions? | The one-piece cockpit is not designed for them; for pure time trialling, look at the Speed Concept. |
| Is matt paint fragile? | Clean it without wax or polishing products to keep its matt look. |

The LVR Cycles verdict The most discreet version of a very fast bike, ideal for riders who often sit on the front. The matt smoked grey ages well and shows off the aero shapes.
