Trek Madone SLR 7 era white: the aero bike for tall riders

The Trek Madone SLR 7 Gen 8 combines OCLV Series 900 carbon, the wireless Shimano Ultegra Di2 2x12 groupset and Bontrager Aeolus Pro 51 carbon wheels, for 7.52 kg in size ML. This colourway is only available in L and XL, for riders from 179 to 199 cm, with 172.5 mm cranks on both sizes. The Era White/Supernova Marble paintwork pairs an ivory white with marbled pearlescent veins that change with the light.

Who is it for?

For the tall, powerful rider who puts out a lot of watts on the flat and wants a bike that can turn that power into speed.

The LVR workshop view

OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. Since 1992, Trek has pressed its fibre sheets under heat and pressure to drive out micro-voids. Each step up the OCLV range reduces the amount of material needed for a given stiffness, and the Series 900 of the Madone SLR 7 is the pinnacle: 3D moulding, fewer sheet overlaps, and strength up to 20% greater than OCLV 800. The result: 796 g for the painted frame in ML and the Trek lifetime warranty.

Put simply: with the same groupset and wheels, the step from the Madone SL 7 to the SLR 7 comes down to the frame and cockpit. You save 350 g on the complete bike in size ML, and the one-piece Aero RSL bar/stem replaces the separate bar and stem, at the cost of less flexible position adjustment.

On large frames, the rider's frontal area weighs heavily in air resistance: an aero bike pays off more there than saving a few grams. Trek claims 77 seconds saved per hour against the Émonda at 200 W, measured on the whole rider, bike and bottles system; a tall rider who often rides above that power gets the full benefit.

The 52/36 chainset and 11-30 cassette suit a strong rider: you can hold the 52x11 on the descents of the wine-growing plain, and the 36x30 is enough for the climbs of the Biterrois. The maximum permitted weight is 125 kg, rider and luggage included.

Which Madone should you choose?

Madone SLR 9OCLV 900Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 2x12Aeolus RSL 51 carbon7.05 kg (ML)

Our take: at 7.52 kg, the SLR 7 is 350 g lighter than the SL 7 with the same groupset. The SLR 7 AXS drops to 7.22 kg with a power meter; the SLR 9 comes down to 7.05 kg thanks to Dura-Ace and RSL wheels.

LVR sizing advice

Low position: between two sizes, the smaller one stays compact and lively, the larger one suits long legs. The one-piece bar/stem cannot be adjusted in length: confirm your size before buying.

The LVR Cycles verdict

A race Madone designed for tall riders, who gain the most speed from aero shapes. The marbled white gives it a very refined look.

Pros
+ Maximum aero gain for tall riders
+ Precise, reliable Ultegra Di2
+ Refined marbled white finish
Cons
- Available in L and XL only
- Light colour shows the dirt
- One-piece cockpit less adjustable

Why buy from LVR Cycles? As a Trek retailer in Béziers, we check your size on this L or XL frame, build and set up the Madone in our workshop, then take care of Di2 updates and brake bleeding.
