Carbon aero road bike Trek Madone SLR 9 AXS The First 50 ICON: RED AXS E1, RSL 65X wheels, 6.90 kg in ML
Trek Madone SLR 9 AXS The First 50 ICON: fifty years of Trek on one frame
For its 50th anniversary, Trek has dressed the Madone SLR 9 AXS Gen 8 in a special Project One ICON paint scheme called The First 50. The specification is that of a cutting-edge race bike: OCLV Series 900 carbon, SRAM RED AXS E1 2x12 with power meter and anniversary-edition Aeolus RSL 65X wheels, for a claimed weight of 6.90 kg in size ML. Its predominantly black finish celebrates the brand's very first bikes.

Who is it for?
For the collector who wants a landmark piece of Trek history, for the cyclist who has been loyal to the brand for years, or for someone looking for the best-equipped production Madone, ready to ride and not just to display.
The LVR workshop view
OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. Beneath the anniversary finish lies the production frame of the Madone SLR 9 AXS in OCLV Series 900: nothing has been sacrificed for looks. Trek has been perfecting this material since 1992, compacting each layer of fibre under heat and pressure to eliminate air pockets. Series 900 adds three-dimensional moulding that reduces ply overlaps; the result is 796 g for the painted frame in ML and 350 g for the fork, with the brand's lifetime warranty.
| OCLV 900 (Madone SLR) | OCLV 500 (Madone SL) | OCLV 800 (Speed Concept) | |
| Level | Trek's most refined carbon | Entry-level road carbon | Trek's former top-end road carbon |
| Construction | 3D moulding, reduced ply overlaps | Same process, more generous lay-up | Proven lay-up, integration comes first |
| Reference bike | Madone SLR: painted frame 796 g (ML), fork 350 g | Madone SL: painted frame 1,054 g (ML), fork 363 g | Speed Concept SLR: painted frame 1,522 g |
| What it means | 271 g less than the SL on frame and fork; up to 20% stronger than OCLV 800 | Same aero shapes, separate bar and stem, gentler budget | Still very high-performing, reserved for triathlon at Trek |
Put simply: these editions leave the frame untouched; they change the finish and a few parts, namely Aeolus RSL 65X wheels with a 58 mm rim and an anniversary Aeolus RSL saddle. On the road, you get the ride of an SLR 9 AXS, with deeper rims that favour long straights but catch more crosswind.
The Aeolus RSL 65X wheels, with their 58 mm rim, are deeper than the RSL 51 of the standard SLR 9 AXS: they favour long fast sections but need more care in crosswinds. On the exposed roads towards Capestang on tramontane days, we recommend suitable tyre pressure and staying alert.
The 28 mm Pirelli P Zero Race TLR RS tyres can be set up tubeless, which we do during preparation. The anniversary Aeolus RSL saddle and RSL Aero bottles round off a complete setup; a cover or storage out of the sun will help preserve the paint.
Which Madone should you choose?
| Model | Carbon | Drivetrain | Wheels | Weight (size) |
| Madone SL 7 The First 50 Replica | OCLV 500 | Shimano Ultegra Di2 | Aeolus Pro 51 carbon | 7.87 kg (ML, standard) |
| Madone SLR 9 AXS | OCLV 900 | SRAM RED AXS E1 + power meter | Aeolus RSL 51 carbon | 7.00 kg (ML) |
| The First 50 ICON | OCLV 900 | SRAM RED AXS E1 + power meter | Aeolus RSL 65X carbon | 6.90 kg (ML) |
| No. 76 ICON | OCLV 900 | SRAM RED AXS E1 + power meter | Aeolus RSL 65X carbon | 6.90 kg (ML) |
Our take: compared with the standard SLR 9 AXS, The First 50 edition switches to 65X wheels and claims 100 g less. The Replica based on the SL 7, at 7.87 kg in standard form, offers the anniversary spirit in OCLV 500.

LVR sizing advice Limited edition: check your size before reserving, as a later exchange is not guaranteed. The geometry is that of the racing Madone; between two sizes, choose the smaller for a low position, the larger for more comfort on long days.

Your questions
| How many are made? | Limited edition; Trek does not disclose the number produced. |
| Difference from the Replica? | The Replica is based on a Madone SL 7 in OCLV 500, the ICON on an SLR 9 AXS. |
| Can you actually ride it? | Of course, it is a complete race bike with a power meter. |
| 58 mm rims and wind? | More sensitive to crosswinds; take care on tramontane days. |

The LVR Cycles verdict An anniversary edition that doesn't settle for looking good: it is the Madone SLR 9 AXS with deeper wheels. A bike to ride as much as to admire.
