Trek FX+ 2 LT Midstep Satin Trek Black: the understated, practical Midstep

This Trek FX+ 2 LT Midstep in satin black combines a frame with a sloping top tube and full commuting equipment: SKS mudguards, 25 kg MIK rear rack, kickstand and Shimano hydraulic brakes. The assistance comes from a 40 Nm Hyena motor in the rear wheel, powered by a 250 Wh battery, for 17.65 kg in size M according to Trek.

Who is it for?

For the rider who wants a discreet electric bike that is easy to step over and light to handle, for getting to work or doing the shopping. This colour comes in XL, for tall riders from 186 to 197 cm.

The LVR workshop view

The Midstep, between straight top tube and step-through. This FX+ 2 LT Midstep keeps the mechanics of the FX+ 2 LT, a 40 Nm Hyena motor in the rear hub and a 250 Wh battery in the down tube, but its top tube slopes down towards the bottom bracket. You step over the bike lower than with a straight top tube, while keeping a stiffer frame than a very open Lowstep.

In other words: 17.65 kg in M, 100 g less than the FX+ 2 LT with a straight top tube, for the same full equipment. The Midstep is aimed at riders who get on and off the bike often, at the lights or outside shops.

Satin black has a practical advantage: it shows few marks and blends into the urban landscape, which attracts less attention when the bike is parked. We still recommend a sturdy lock and theft insurance, as for any electric bike.

The 42-tooth single chainring and the 11-40 cassette cover the needs of town riding, from bridge climbs to the long straights of the avenue. The Hyena assistance stays active up to 25 km/h; beyond that, the bike pedals like a conventional hybrid thanks to its low weight.
