In a pale lichen green with a gloss finish, this Trek FX+ 7 brings some colour to urban e-bikes. Who is it for?

Alpha Platinum and the TQ motor, the lightweight duo. The FX+ 7 uses Alpha Platinum aluminium, a higher grade of Trek's alloy, paired with a carbon fork. At the bottom bracket, the TQ HPR50 motor delivers 50 Nm from a compact, quiet unit, powered by a 360 Wh TQ battery. The result looks like a classic sporty hybrid, with a straight top tube and integrated bar-stem, and assistance you soon forget is there.

In short: the FX+ 7 is the most refined Trek electric hybrid bike in this selection, at 19.30 kg in L. You gain 10 Nm of torque over the hub motor of the FX+ 2, with mid-drive assistance that stays natural when you pull away.

The Shimano hydraulic brakes with RS600 levers and RS405 calipers work on 180 mm rotors up front and 160 mm at the rear: precise, well-modulated braking, handy on the descents down to the Canal du Midi. The Bontrager Paradigm Tubeless Ready rims and thru axles stiffen the whole bike.

The 40 mm Bontrager H2 Hard Case Lite tyres, reinforced against punctures, strike a good balance between efficiency and comfort on cycle paths and towpaths. The smooth, quiet TQ assistance cuts out at 25 km/h, as the regulations require.

Our take: the same bike as the matte black FX+ 7, this lichen green is purely a matter of taste. The FX+ 7 Midstep, at 19.30 kg in M, is easier to step over; the FX+ 2 LT remains lighter but has less torque.
