When loaded with luggage, the automatic hub proves invaluable: at every change of gradient, it adapts the ratio without you having to think ahead. The 90 Nm of the PX motor makes restarts easier with full panniers, and the belt doesn't get clogged on tracks.

The MT420 brakes on 180 and 203 mm rotors keep loaded descents safe. The Bontrager Boulevard saddle and adjustable sprung seatpost keep you comfortable stage after stage; the battery is charged in the evening at your accommodation.

Our take: the same bike as the black colour. Compared with the Charter+ 5 R10 800 Wh (31.20 kg in M), it replaces the derailleur with an automatic belt-driven hub for 0.30 kg more.

LVR sizing advice

You get onto the Lowstep frame from the front, without lifting your leg: the size is chosen mainly on saddle height and reach. Trek's ranges overlap between M and L (170 to 173 cm); in that case, the smaller size gives a more upright position and the larger one more room for long rides. The height-adjustable stem then fine-tunes the position.
