For anyone who does their shopping by bike, from the Friday market to the shops in the centre, and comes home with full panniers. It will also appeal to those who want to be clearly seen in traffic thanks to a bold colour.
A step-through frame designed for frequent stops. The Charter+ 4 R9 Lowstep is built on Alpha Platinum aluminium, one of the higher grades of Trek's alloys. Its low step-over lets you put a foot down at every red light without contortions, and Trek has integrated the rack and mudguards into the frame, avoiding add-on mounts that work loose over time. The 540 Wh battery slides in through the top of the down tube.
| Shimano CUES derailleur | Nexus 5 hub + belt | Enviolo hub + belt | |
| How it works | 9 sprockets and a Linkglide chain | 5 gears enclosed in the hub | Continuously variable, no steps |
| Maintenance | Chain needs cleaning and lubing | Grease-free belt, sealed hub | Grease-free belt, sealed hub |
| Reference bike | Charter+ 4 R9, 30.80 kg (M, 540 Wh) | Charter+ 4 Nexus 5, 30.60 kg (M, 540 Wh) | Charter+ 4 Enviolo, 31.60 kg (M, 540 Wh) |
| What it means | Widest gear range | Shifts at a standstill, clean | The ideal gear at any moment |
In short: this is the entry point to the step-through Charter+, with a 9-speed Shimano CUES derailleur and a 75 Nm Bosch motor. At 30.80 kg in size M according to Trek, it's aimed at everyday journeys and half-day rides.
Because the rack is part of the frame, it doesn't work loose or creak over time, even loaded with panniers. The load at the rear stays low, and the Bosch motor makes up for the extra weight on climbs: the bike stays stable.
The 11-tooth smallest sprocket and the 46-tooth largest sprocket on the CUES cassette give a comfortable range: a low gear for setting off loaded, a high gear for cruising on the flat. The aluminium mudguards protect your clothes and panniers from spray after a shower.
| Model | Motor / battery | Drivetrain | Fork | Weight (size) |
| Charter+ 4 R9 540 Wh Lowstep | Bosch Performance Line 75 Nm / 540 Wh | Shimano CUES 9-speed | 63 mm coil | 30.80 kg (M) |
| Charter+ 4 R9 800 Wh Lowstep | Bosch Performance Line 75 Nm / 800 Wh | Shimano CUES 9-speed | 63 mm coil | 31.70 kg (M) |
| Charter+ 4 Trail 540 Wh Lowstep | Bosch Performance Line 75 Nm / 540 Wh | Shimano CUES 9-speed | XCR32 80 mm | 27.80 kg (M) |
| Charter+ 4 Nexus 5 belt 540 Wh Lowstep | Bosch Performance Line 75 Nm / 540 Wh | Nexus 5 + belt | 63 mm coil | 30.60 kg (M) |
Our take: compared with the grey and black colours, this red is technically identical and is purely a matter of taste. For heavier shopping or longer journeys, the R9 800 Wh adds 260 Wh for 0.90 kg more (31.70 kg in M).

LVR sizing advice You get onto the Lowstep frame from the front, without lifting your leg: the size is chosen mainly on saddle height and reach. Trek's ranges overlap between M and L (170 to 173 cm); in that case, the smaller size gives a more upright position and the larger one more room for long rides. The height-adjustable stem then fine-tunes the position.
