For anyone living in a village around Béziers, in Sérignan, Villeneuve or Maraussan, who rides into town every day along the back roads. The big battery means fewer charges on these regular journeys.
The maximum energy reserve of the derailleur-equipped Charter+ 4. Here Trek slips an 800 Wh Bosch PowerTube into the Alpha Platinum aluminium down tube, without changing the silhouette of the step-through frame. The battery's mass stays low and central, between the two wheels, which steadies the bike when stationary and in slow corners. The rack and mudguards are part of the frame itself.
| Shimano CUES derailleur | Nexus 5 hub + belt | Enviolo hub + belt | |
| How it works | 9 sprockets and a Linkglide chain | 5 gears enclosed in the hub | Continuously variable, no steps |
| Maintenance | Chain needs cleaning and lubing | Grease-free belt, sealed hub | Grease-free belt, sealed hub |
| Reference bike | Charter+ 4 R9, 30.80 kg (M, 540 Wh) | Charter+ 4 Nexus 5, 30.60 kg (M, 540 Wh) | Charter+ 4 Enviolo, 31.60 kg (M, 540 Wh) |
| What it means | Widest gear range | Shifts at a standstill, clean | The ideal gear at any moment |
In short: compared with the 540 Wh version, you gain 260 Wh of capacity for 0.90 kg more according to Trek (31.70 kg versus 30.80 kg in M). The rest of the bike is identical: same motor, same drivetrain, same equipment.
On a suburban commute, you alternate fast stretches and restarts: the 75 Nm Bosch motor takes over when you pull away, then fades out at 25 km/h, the speed beyond which you pedal on your own. The 11-46 cassette has enough high gears to hold your pace on the flat.
The Shimano MT200 hydraulic brakes and their 180 mm rotors keep consistent power in the rain, where rim brakes would lose effectiveness. The frame has integrated mudguards and a rack: you arrive at work dry, with your bag secured.
| Model | Motor / battery | Drivetrain | Fork | Weight (size) |
| Charter+ 4 R9 540 Wh Lowstep | Bosch Performance Line 75 Nm / 540 Wh | Shimano CUES 9-speed | 63 mm coil | 30.80 kg (M) |
| Charter+ 4 R9 800 Wh Lowstep | Bosch Performance Line 75 Nm / 800 Wh | Shimano CUES 9-speed | 63 mm coil | 31.70 kg (M) |
| Charter+ 5 R10 800 Wh Lowstep | Bosch Performance Line PX 90 Nm / 800 Wh | Shimano CUES 10-speed | Mobie 34 air 80 mm | 31.20 kg (M) |
| Charter+ 4 Nexus 5 belt 800 Wh Lowstep | Bosch Performance Line 75 Nm / 800 Wh | Nexus 5 + belt | 63 mm coil | 31.50 kg (M) |
Our take: this R9 800 Wh and the Nexus 5 800 Wh Lowstep (31.50 kg in M) have the same battery; the former keeps 9 gears and a derailleur, the latter a grease-free belt and 5 internal gears.

LVR sizing advice You get onto the Lowstep frame from the front, without lifting your leg: the size is chosen mainly on saddle height and reach. Trek's ranges overlap between M and L (170 to 173 cm); in that case, the smaller size gives a more upright position and the larger one more room for long rides. The height-adjustable stem then fine-tunes the position.

| Can I charge it less often? | Yes, that's the point of the 800 Wh: how often depends on your distance, the terrain and the mode used. |
| Do I need a special lock? | A good-quality D-lock or chain lock is recommended; we'll help you choose one. |
| What maintenance does the derailleur need? | Regular cleaning and lubrication of the chain, and a check at every service. |
| Does the black show scratches? | A deep black can show scuffs; a cover or careful storage keeps them to a minimum. |
|
The LVR Cycles verdict A Charter+ built for commuters coming from further afield, with a battery that saves you charging every day. The deep black gives it a discreet presence in traffic and in the garage alike.
