For the club rider who wants crisp shifts every time the pace lifts, the cyclist who rides with others and likes changing gear without thinking about it, or the sportive rider who wants to move up the range without leaving the Shimano world. Sizes 54, 56 and 58 cover riders from 168 to 185 cm.
OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. Behind the OCLV acronym, for Optimum Compaction Low Void, lies a moulding process in which the carbon sheets are pressed at high temperature until the microscopic bubbles are driven out. Trek has been refining this method since 1992, and the series printed on the tube shows how far it has been taken: for equal strength, a higher series needs fewer fibres. All OCLV frames benefit from the brand's lifetime warranty.
| OCLV 500 (Domane SL) | OCLV 900 (Domane SLR) | |
| Range | The carbon of the Domane SL, including this SL 6 | The carbon of the Domane SLR |
| Moulding | Full OCLV process, slightly more fibre | Rigid 3D mould, fewer overlaps |
| Benchmark (Gen 5 frame, ML) | approx. 1,055 g | approx. 835 g unpainted |
| Real difference | Tough, comfortable, more affordable | About 220 g less; up to 20 % stronger than OCLV 800 |
105 Di2 changes the way you ride in a bunch: one press is enough, the front derailleur trims itself and shifting stays precise even in winter gloves. The shifters communicate wirelessly, the BT-DN300 battery sits inside the frame and charges through the rear derailleur; one charge lasts for many rides.
35 mm carbon rims are a good compromise for our region: deep enough to hold your speed on the flat across the vineyard plain, shallow enough to stay calm when the sea wind picks up on the coast road. Combined with IsoSpeed and Kammtail tubes, they make the SL 6 a lively bike that stays smooth on the coarse tarmac of the hinterland.
| Model | Frame | Drivetrain | Wheels | Weight (size) |
| Domane SL 5 Gen 4 | OCLV 500, IsoSpeed, 38 mm max. | Shimano 105 mechanical | Aluminium | 9.09 kg (56) |
| Domane SL 6 Gen 4 | OCLV 500, IsoSpeed, 38 mm max. | Shimano 105 Di2 | Carbon 35 mm | 8.89 kg (56) |
| Domane SL 7 Gen 4 | OCLV 500, IsoSpeed, 38 mm max. | Shimano Ultegra Di2 | Carbon 51 mm | 8.42 kg (56) |
| Domane SL 6 AXS (Gen 5) | OCLV 500, no IsoSpeed, 40 mm max. | SRAM Rival AXS wireless | Carbon 50 mm | 8.64 kg (ML) |
Our take: the SL 6 Gen 4 keeps IsoSpeed, integrated storage and Shimano Di2, while the Gen 5 SL 6 AXS switches to SRAM, weighs 8.64 kg in ML against 8.89 kg in 56 here and takes 40 mm tyres. If every gram counts, the SL 7 Gen 4 drops to 8.42 kg in 56.
