For the sportive rider aiming for a time at their favourite events, the strong rider who takes turns on the front of the group, or the experienced cyclist replacing an overly stiff race bike. Offered here in 47, 50, 52, 54 and 58, it covers riders from 152 to 185 cm.
OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. The acronym refers to an in-house moulding technique used since 1992: by pressing and heating the fibres, Trek reduces to a minimum the internal voids that would weaken the frame. The series number reflects how efficient the layup is; the higher it climbs, the less material is needed to reach the target stiffness. This Domane comes with the Trek lifetime warranty on the frame.
| OCLV 500 (Domane SL) | OCLV 900 (Domane SLR) | |
| Where you find it | All Domane SL models, up to the SL 7 | Domane SLR models only |
| Construction | OCLV compaction, slightly thicker layup | Rigid 3D moulding, limited overlaps |
| Benchmark (Gen 5 frame, ML) | approx. 1,055 g | approx. 835 g unpainted |
| Result | Durable frame, big price difference | About 220 g saved; up to 20 % stronger than OCLV 800 |
With the Aeolus Pro 51 wheels and Kammtail tubes, this Domane holds its speed on the long false flats around Béziers and picks up effortlessly out of roundabouts. The 51 mm rims do, however, require a little care when the tramontane blows across, especially on bridges and exposed ridges.
Ultegra Di2 differs from 105 Di2 in its lighter parts, an XT chain and CL800 rotors: the gain is felt mainly in the finesse of the shifts and in how it holds up season after season. We set up the drivetrain on the stand before handover, then check chain and pad wear at every service, a key point when you ride fast and often.
| Model | Frame | Drivetrain | Wheels | Weight (size) |
| Domane SL 5 Gen 4 | OCLV 500, IsoSpeed, 38 mm max. | Shimano 105 mechanical | Aluminium | 9.09 kg (56) |
| Domane SL 6 Gen 4 | OCLV 500, IsoSpeed, 38 mm max. | Shimano 105 Di2 | Carbon 35 mm | 8.89 kg (56) |
| Domane SL 7 Gen 4 | OCLV 500, IsoSpeed, 38 mm max. | Shimano Ultegra Di2 | Carbon 51 mm | 8.42 kg (56) |
| Domane SL 7 AXS 1x (Gen 5) | OCLV 500, no IsoSpeed, 40 mm max. | SRAM Force XPLR 1x13 + power meter | Carbon 51 mm | 8.14 kg (ML) |
Our take: the SL 7 Gen 4 keeps IsoSpeed, integrated storage and Ultegra Di2 in 2x12; the Gen 5 SL 7 AXS 1x moves to SRAM 1x13 with a power meter, weighs 8.14 kg in ML against 8.42 kg in 56 and takes 40 mm tyres. Compared with the SL 6 Gen 4, you save 470 g and get deeper rims.

LVR sizing advice Sizes available in this colour: 47, 50, 52, 54 and 58. Between two sizes, the larger one gives a more stretched-out position, the smaller one a livelier bike.

| Fast enough for racing? | For sportives, yes; in bunch racing, a Madone will be more aggressive. |
| 51 mm rims and wind? | They need some attention in strong crosswinds, nothing more. |
| Why not Gen 5? | Gen 4 keeps IsoSpeed and 2x12 Di2; Gen 5 is lighter, in 1x13. |
| What maintenance does Di2 need? | A charge now and then and an update at the annual service. |
|
The LVR Cycles verdict The sharpest Domane of this generation, combining 51 mm wheels and Ultegra Di2 without losing the comfort of IsoSpeed. We recommend it to the demanding sportive rider who wants a fast bike for years to come.
