Smoky black with a matt finish, the Matte Deep Smoke colourway dresses a Trek Domane SL 6 AXS that does more than just offer comfort: its 50 mm Aeolus Elite carbon rims keep the speed up when the group accelerates. The OCLV Series 500 carbon frame carries a wireless SRAM Rival AXS 2x12 drivetrain, for a weight of 8.64 kg in size ML. An endurance bike that can take its turn on the front on a Sunday morning without wearing out its rider.

For the club member who rides in a fast-moving bunch, the former racer who wants to keep the pace up in a less hunched position, or the sportive rider training on the long straight roads of the vineyard plain. The electronic shifts stay crisp even under effort, which helps you respond to accelerations without losing the wheel.
OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. Trek has been developing its OCLV carbon since 1992: the fibre layers are compacted under heat and pressure to drive out the micro-voids that weaken a frame. The series number indicates how optimised the layup is: the higher it is, the less material is needed to achieve the same stiffness and strength. OCLV carbon frames benefit from the Trek lifetime warranty.
| OCLV 500 (Domane SL) | OCLV 900 (Domane SLR) | |
| Level | Entry-level carbon of the road range | Trek's most advanced carbon |
| Construction | Robust layup, slightly more material | Rigid 3D moulding, fewer fibre overlaps |
| Gen 5 Domane frame | approx. 1,055 g | approx. 835 g (unpainted, size ML) |
| What it means | Tough, comfortable frame, more affordable price | About 220 g less on the frame; up to 20 % stronger than the previous OCLV 800 |
On group rides, moving to OCLV 900 would only take 220 g off the frame: on the flat, deep rims and position matter far more than a few grams.
The 50 mm wheels are this Domane's real asset: once up to speed, they need less effort to hold a high pace. In a tramontane or a sea wind from the side, however, they need a little more care on the front of the group; nothing worrying, but good to know before you choose.
Rival AXS changes gear with a simple press, out of the saddle or with your hands in the drops, and the 160 mm rotors brake consistently on the descents towards the Orb valley. In the workshop, the absence of derailleur cables simplifies adjustments: at each service we mainly check hanger alignment and battery condition.
| Model | Carbon | Drivetrain | Wheels | Weight (ML) |
| Domane SL 5 | OCLV 500 | Shimano 105 mechanical | Aluminium | 8.84 kg |
| Domane SL 6 AXS | OCLV 500 | SRAM Rival AXS wireless | Carbon 50 mm | 8.64 kg |
| Domane SL 7 AXS 1x | OCLV 500 | SRAM Force XPLR 1x13 + power meter | Carbon 51 mm | 8.14 kg |
| Domane SLR 7 | OCLV 900 | Shimano Ultegra Di2 | Carbon 51 mm | 7.66 kg |
Our take: for club rides, the SL 6 AXS is the first Domane SL with carbon rims, 200 g lighter than the SL 5. The SLR 7 takes off another 980 g, but with an OCLV 900 frame in a different league altogether.

LVR sizing advice If you like riding in the drops when taking your turn on the front, the largest size in your range will give you a little more reach. Cranks, handlebar and stem change with each size.

| Fast enough for club riding? | Yes: 50 mm carbon rims and Rival AXS easily keep up with a group pace. |
| And in strong wind? | The 50 mm rims catch crosswinds; keep your hands near the levers. |
| A power meter? | Not as standard; the SL 7 AXS 1x has one, otherwise we can fit one in the workshop. |
| What servicing should I plan? | A full check every season: brakes, drivetrain, bolt torques and batteries. |
|
The LVR Cycles verdict The SL 6 AXS in its most understated guise, fast on the flat thanks to its deep rims and precise when the pace lifts. A bike for riding fast in a group without adopting the position of a race bike.
