The Trek Domane SLR 9 AXS 1x Gen 5 does away with the front derailleur in favour of a single 44-tooth chainring and a 13-speed 10-46 cassette, in wireless SRAM RED XPLR AXS with power meter. With its OCLV Series 900 frame, Aeolus RSL 37 wheels and integrated cockpit, it weighs just 6.63 kg in size ML. The Navy Smoke/Trek White version mixes a smoky navy blue with white, for a classic, crisp look.

For the cyclist who wants a simple drivetrain, with a single shifter to manage and no chain jumping between chainrings. It is for those who ride fast on club rides, appreciate clean mechanics and accept slightly bigger gaps between sprockets.
OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. Since 1992, Trek has compacted its carbon layers under heat and pressure so that no air bubbles remain: that is OCLV. Grade 900 is its finest version, with rigid 3D moulding and fibre overlaps kept to a minimum. On the Domane, it saves around 220 g of frame weight compared with the SL and brings up to 20 % extra strength over the previous OCLV 800. This SLR 9 AXS 1x shares its frame with the other SLR 9 models; its 660 g advantage over the 2x version comes from the single chainring, RSL 37 wheels, narrow tyres and bar-stem.
| OCLV 900 (Domane SLR) | OCLV 500 (Domane SL) | |
| Level | Trek's most advanced carbon | Entry-level carbon of the road range |
| Construction | Rigid 3D moulding, reduced fibre overlaps | More generous layup with more material |
| Gen 5 Domane frame | approx. 835 g (unpainted, size ML) | approx. 1,055 g |
| What it means | About 220 g saved on the frame; the rest of the weight comes down to the components | Heavier frame, ideal for a first carbon bike |
With 13 sprockets from 10 to 46 teeth, the range stays wide despite the single chainring: the 44x46 even goes a little lower than the 35x36 of a 2x12. Fewer parts also means fewer adjustments: no front derailleur to align, and a drivetrain that is simpler to maintain.
The 28 mm Pirelli tyres are a surprise on a Domane, whose philosophy is built around 35 mm sections: they save weight and make the bike livelier, but filter less, and the frame accepts up to 40 mm. The Aero RSL bar-stem, shared with the Madone, also puts you lower than the raised bar of the other SLR models; we adjust its height with spacers before handover.
| Model | Carbon | Drivetrain | Wheels | Weight (ML) |
| Domane SLR 7 | OCLV 900 | Shimano Ultegra Di2 2x12 | Aeolus Pro 51 | 7.66 kg |
| Domane SLR 9 | OCLV 900 | Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 2x12 | Aeolus RSL 51 | 7.34 kg |
| Domane SLR 9 AXS | OCLV 900 | SRAM RED AXS 2x12 + power meter | Aeolus RSL 51 | 7.29 kg |
| Domane SLR 9 AXS 1x | OCLV 900 | SRAM RED XPLR AXS 1x13 + power meter | Aeolus RSL 37 | 6.63 kg |
| Domane SLR 9 AXS No. 76 | OCLV 900 | SRAM RED AXS 2x12 + power meter | Aeolus RSL 37 | 7.19 kg |
Our take: 6.63 kg in ML is 660 g less than the SLR 9 AXS (7.29 kg), at the cost of a lower position and narrower tyres. If comfort comes first, the SLR 9 AXS remains the more coherent choice; for speed and the mountains, the 1x takes the advantage.

LVR sizing advice The integrated bar-stem can't be swapped like a conventional stem: choose the size carefully, ideally after a bike fit.
Source: Trek size guide. Bike fitting available in our Béziers shop. |
| Is 1x enough? | Yes: 44x46 as the lowest gear, slightly shorter than the 35x36 of a 2x12. |
| Gaps between gears? | Bigger than with 2x12, mainly noticeable on the flat in a group. |
| Less maintenance? | Yes, with no front derailleur or second chainring to keep an eye on. |
| Can I fit mudguards? | Yes, mounts present; 35 mm tyres maximum in that case. |
|
The LVR Cycles verdict A clean drivetrain on the lightest Domane: simple to use, easy to maintain and highly effective. The one we recommend to the strong rider who wants performance without mechanical complications.
