For the tall rider who rides hard in enduro and at the bike park, puts strength and braking power ahead of weight, and wants a tough wireless drivetrain. It also suits repeated downhill sessions with shuttle uplifts.
Alpha Platinum aluminium, armed to the teeth. According to Trek data, this Slash 9 GX AXS is built on the Gen 6 Alpha Platinum aluminium frame, like the Slash 8: high main pivot with idler pulley, adjustable head angle headset, internal storage and Active Braking Pivot. It stands out for its kit designed for steep terrain: ZEB fork, Vivid shock, CODE brakes and SE6 tyres.
| OCLV Mountain (Slash 9.8 / 9.9) | Alpha Platinum (Slash 8 / 9) | Benchmark: Gen 7 Fuel LX | |
| Level | Trek's mountain bike carbon | High-end aluminium | Enduro on a Fuel base |
| Construction | OCLV layup tuned for impact resistance | Hydroformed tubes, smoothed welds | Carbon or NEXT Platinum alloy |
| Reference bike | Slash 9.9 X0 AXS: 16.53 kg (M) | Slash 8: 16.68 kg (M) | Fuel LX 9.8 XT Di2: 15.97 kg (M) |
| What it means | Lifetime frame warranty, higher-end builds | Cheaper to replace after a big crash | 160 / 170 mm, conventional pivot |
Put simply: it is the heaviest of the Slash models (17.47 kg), and that is not a flaw. The parts that add weight are precisely the ones that take the hits: ZEB fork, Vivid shock, SE6 tyres and CODE brakes.
The RockShox ZEB is a very stiff enduro fork that holds its line in the roughest rock gardens of the Espinouse. At the rear, the Vivid absorbs repeated impacts without losing effectiveness, even on long descents.
The SRAM CODE Bronze brakes on 200 mm rotors offer a great deal of power, suited to a heavy rider on a large frame. The GX AXS T-Type drivetrain, mounted on the UDH hanger, stands up well to knocks against rocks.
| Model | Frame | Travel rear / front | Drivetrain | Weight (M) |
| Slash 8 | Alpha Platinum alloy | 170 / 170 mm | Shimano XT 1x12 | 16.68 kg |
| Slash 9 GX AXS | Alpha Platinum alloy | 170 / 170 mm | SRAM GX AXS T-Type 1x12 | 17.47 kg |
| Slash 9.8 XT Di2 | OCLV Mountain carbon | 170 / 170 mm | Shimano XT Di2 1x12 | 16.63 kg |
| Fuel LX 9.8 XT Di2 (Gen 7) | OCLV Mountain carbon | 160 / 170 mm | Shimano XT Di2 1x12 | 15.97 kg |
Our take: 790 g more than the Slash 8, for higher-end RockShox suspension, CODE brakes and wireless shifting. The carbon Slash 9.8 XT Di2 weighs 16.63 kg.
