Trek Top Fuel 9.9 XX AXS Lunar Silver: the lightest Top Fuel

The Gen 4 Trek Top Fuel 9.9 XX AXS T-Type is the lightest Top Fuel in our selection: 12.85 kg in size M for a 120 / 130 mm OCLV Mountain carbon full-suspension bike. It combines the SRAM XX SL Eagle AXS T-Type wireless drivetrain, a Reverb AXS post, Level Ultimate brakes and a one-piece RSL bar-stem. Its Lunar Silver finish, a luminous lunar silver, highlights the shapes of the carbon frame.

Who is it for?

For the smaller mountain biker chasing pure performance in marathons or long-distance events, or who simply wants the lightest, best-equipped Top Fuel. It suits the rider who climbs a lot and wants to keep real descending capability.

The LVR workshop view

OCLV Mountain carbon, the featherweight version. The Top Fuel 9.9 XX AXS takes the Gen 4 carbon frame to its highest spec. The mountain bike OCLV layup reinforces exposed areas without adding weight, and the frame keeps its internal storage, Mino Link and ABP pivot. Combined with the one-piece RSL bar-stem and the XX groupset, it is the lightest build in our Top Fuel selection, with Trek's lifetime warranty.

Put simply: 12.85 kg for a 120 / 130 mm trail bike is 1.73 kg less than the aluminium Top Fuel 8. Carbon explains only part of it; the wheels, drivetrain and cockpit do the rest.

The SRAM AXS ecosystem does away with all drivetrain and dropper cables: the cockpit is clean and the settings stay stable ride after ride. The XX SL T-Type rear derailleur, mounted on the UDH hanger, is both light and very resistant to impacts.

The four-piston SRAM Level Ultimate brakes favour low weight while keeping enough power for fast trail riding. On the very long descents of the Montagne Noire, we recommend checking the pads regularly; we handle bleeding in the workshop.

Our take: 250 g less than the 9.9 XTR Di2 and 1.15 kg less than the 9.8 XT Di2. Compared with the Fuel EX 9.9 XTR, it saves 1.13 kg but gives up 20 mm of travel at each end.

LVR sizing advice

Available here in S, from 155 to 165 cm, with 27.5-inch wheels and a 100 mm Reverb AXS. We adjust the saddle height and cut down the 820 mm handlebar if needed.
