This bike is aimed at the rider who spends Sundays on regional enduro stages or at the bike park, and wants a bike that can pedal itself back to the top of the trails. It also suits the trail rider who has gained confidence and wants more margin on steep, rough sections.
Alpha NEXT Platinum aluminium, the pinnacle of Trek alloy. Trek grades its alloys in three tiers: Alpha Silver for the Marlin, Alpha Platinum for more committed models, and Alpha NEXT Platinum, reserved for the Gen 7 Fuel models. It is the latter that this Fuel LX 9 uses. The frame gets everything that makes the platform: adjustable progression, interchangeable kinematic parts, integrated storage, threaded bottom bracket and ISCG 05 mounts for a chain guide.
| Alpha NEXT Platinum (Fuel LX 9) | OCLV Mountain (Fuel LX 9.8) | Alpha Platinum (Slash 8) | |
| Level | Trek's best MTB aluminium, reserved for Gen 7 Fuels | Trek's mountain bike carbon | Aluminium from the range above |
| Construction | Alloy engineered for strength, highly adjustable frame | OCLV layup tuned for impact resistance | Tough alloy, simpler kinematics |
| Reference bike | Gen 7 alloy Fuel EX frameset: 4.95 kg (M) | Gen 7 carbon Fuel EX frameset: 3.31 kg (M) | Complete Slash 8: 16.68 kg (M) |
| What it means | Takes knocks, more affordable | About 1.6 kg less on the frameset | 170 mm alloy enduro, less adjustable |
Put simply: on an enduro bike, aluminium is not a cut-price choice. It takes rock strikes and crashes without worry, and the alloy frameset weighs only about 1.6 kg more than its carbon equivalent (Trek measurement on the Fuel EX).
The Fox 38 Factory and DHX2 pairing is a benchmark in gravity riding. The fork's GRIP X2 damper separates high- and low-speed compression and rebound: enough to fine-tune behaviour on big hits without losing sensitivity. At the rear, the DHX2's coil spring stays glued to the ground over successive rocks and heats up less than an air shock on long descents.
On the Caroux singletrack, where slabs alternate with rock steps, this fine-tuning makes the difference. We prepare every Fuel LX in the workshop: spring choice according to your weight, sag, rebound and baseline compression settings. It is the step that turns a good bike into a bike that suits you.
| Model | Frame | Drivetrain | Travel rear / front | Weight (M) |
| Fuel MX 9 Eagle 90 | Alpha NEXT Platinum alloy | Mechanical SRAM Eagle 90 | 150 / 160 mm | 16.78 kg |
| Fuel LX 9 Eagle 90 | Alpha NEXT Platinum alloy | Mechanical SRAM Eagle 90 | 160 / 170 mm | 17.38 kg |
| Fuel LX 9 XT | Alpha NEXT Platinum alloy | Mechanical Shimano XT | 160 / 170 mm | 17.79 kg |
| Fuel LX 9.8 XT Di2 | OCLV Mountain carbon | Wireless Shimano XT Di2 | 160 / 170 mm | 15.97 kg |
Our take: at 17.38 kg in M, this LX 9 Eagle 90 weighs 600 g more than the Fuel MX 9 Eagle 90, which makes do with 150 / 160 mm. The LX 9 XT adds 410 g; to get down towards 16 kg, you need the carbon of the 9.8 XT Di2.

LVR sizing advice Between two sizes, the smaller one makes the bike more playful in hairpins, the larger one more stable at high speed. Dropper post travel increases with size.

| Is a coil shock really useful? | Yes in enduro: it tracks the terrain better and does not overheat on long descents; it is chosen according to your weight. |
| Can you pedal back up? | Yes, with 30 x 52 gearing and the dropper post, technical climbs remain manageable at a steady pace. |
| Can a chain guide be fitted? | Yes, the frame has ISCG 05 mounts for a chain guide. |
| Which sizes for this colour? | M and L, for riders from 165 to 188 cm. |

The LVR Cycles verdict An aluminium enduro bike with no compromise on suspension, ready for regional races and the bike park. Its black-speckled grey stays understated and hides dirt marks well.
