For the mountain biker who wants to get into XC racing with a carbon full-suspension bike and wireless shifting, or for the rider moving from an aluminium hardtail to a faster, more comfortable bike. It also suits sporty Sunday rides.
OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. With OCLV, Trek has been compacting its fibre layers under heat and pressure for more than thirty years, for dense, void-free carbon. The OCLV Mountain derivative prioritises impact resistance, essential on a mountain bike. The Supercaliber SL 9.7 uses the SL version: slightly more material than the SLR, the same geometry, the same IsoStrut and Trek's lifetime warranty.
| OCLV Mountain SL | OCLV Mountain SLR | Alpha Platinum alloy (Procaliber 6 / 8) | |
| Level | Trek's standard mountain bike carbon | Trek's lightest mountain bike carbon | High-end aluminium, hardtail |
| Construction | OCLV process, layup tuned to absorb impacts | Same process, optimised layup, less material | Hydroformed, welded tubes |
| Reference bike | Supercaliber SL 9.6 and SL 9.7 GX AXS | Supercaliber SLR 9.8 and 9.9 | Procaliber 6 and 8, 120 mm fork |
| What it means | Tough frame, lifetime warranty, gentler budget | A few hundred grams less on the frame | No IsoStrut or rear suspension |
Put simply: the SL frame is no cut-price carbon, it simply accepts a few more grams than the SLR. On this 9.7, the investment goes into the GX AXS T-Type wireless drivetrain and the carbon handlebar: 750 g saved compared with the SL 9.6.
GX AXS T-Type brings wireless shifting to this level of the range: crisp electronic shifts, no more cable to adjust, and a derailleur mounted directly on the axle thanks to the UDH hanger. For a mountain biker riding in the dust of the garrigue, that means less maintenance and lasting precision.
The 750 mm Bontrager Line Pro carbon handlebar filters some of the vibration in your hands, welcome on rocky tracks. The 4-piston Motive Bronze brakes provide the power needed to descend with confidence, especially with a 180 mm front rotor.
| Model | Carbon | Drivetrain | Suspension | Weight (M) |
| Supercaliber SL 9.6 | OCLV Mountain SL | Mechanical SRAM Eagle 70 | Reba RL / SIDLuxe | 12.93 kg |
| Supercaliber SL 9.7 GX AXS | OCLV Mountain SL | Wireless SRAM GX AXS | SID / SIDLuxe | 12.18 kg |
| Supercaliber SLR 9.8 XT Di2 | OCLV Mountain SLR | Shimano XT Di2 | SID SL Ultimate / SIDLuxe | 11.58 kg |
| Supercaliber SLR 9.8 X0 AXS | OCLV Mountain SLR | Wireless SRAM X0 AXS | SID Select+ / SIDLuxe | 11.38 kg |
Our take: at 12.18 kg in M, the SL 9.7 GX AXS saves 750 g and gains wireless shifting over the SL 9.6. For the SLR frame and a SID SL Ultimate fork, you need to move up to the 9.8 XT Di2 at 11.58 kg.

LVR sizing advice Between two sizes, go for the smaller one for liveliness in the woods, the larger one if you ride mainly on fast circuits. In S, 720 mm handlebar and 60 mm stem; up to a 90 mm stem in XL.
