For the mountain biker who loves descending as much as climbing, rides modern XC courses with jumps and rocky sections, and wants a light bike that does not hold them back on technical ground. It also suits riders on sporty trail rides who want to go fast everywhere.
OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. Trek developed OCLV in the early 1990s: compaction under pressure and temperature that drives out the air trapped between the fibre plies. For mountain biking, the brand created OCLV Mountain, whose priority is impact resistance rather than weight saving alone. The 9.8 X0 Flight Attendant benefits from the SLR variant, the finest, with the same lifetime warranty as every Trek frame.
| OCLV Mountain SLR | OCLV Mountain SL | Alpha Platinum alloy (Procaliber 6 / 8) | |
| Level | Trek's most advanced mountain bike carbon | Standard MTB carbon, same geometry | Trek premium aluminium |
| Construction | OCLV process, layup refined to the maximum | OCLV process, slightly more material | Hydroforming, smoothed welds |
| Reference bike | Supercaliber SLR 9.8 and 9.9 | Supercaliber SL 9.6 and 9.7 | Procaliber 6 and 8 (hardtails) |
| What it means | Lighter frame, reserved for high-end builds | Same IsoStrut, slightly heavier frame | Heavier, no rear suspension |
Put simply: this 9.8 brings Flight Attendant suspension and a power meter for 100 g less than the standard 9.8 X0 AXS. It does not change the wheels or brakes of the rest of the 9.8 range: for the lightest version, you need to move up to the 9.9 XX Flight Attendant.
Today's XC courses include drops, rock gardens and steep descents that were unimaginable ten years ago. The Line Dropper post, with 150 mm in M and up to 170 mm in XL, clears the space under the saddle so you can shift your hips back and stay in control on the red-earth slabs around the Salagou.
The Motive Silver 4-piston brakes, with a 180 mm front rotor, offer power you would rather expect on a trail bike. Combined with Flight Attendant, which opens the suspension as soon as the terrain deteriorates, they turn this lightweight into a reassuring bike when the gradient steepens.
| Model | Carbon | Drivetrain | Suspension | Weight (M) |
| Supercaliber SLR 9.8 X0 AXS | OCLV Mountain SLR | Wireless SRAM X0 AXS | SID Select+ / SIDLuxe | 11.38 kg |
| Supercaliber SLR 9.8 X0 Flight Attendant | OCLV Mountain SLR | SRAM X0 AXS + power meter | Flight Attendant | 11.28 kg |
| Supercaliber SLR 9.9 XTR Di2 | OCLV Mountain SLR | Shimano XTR Di2 | SID SL Ultimate / SIDLuxe | 10.58 kg |
| Supercaliber SLR 9.9 XX Flight Attendant | OCLV Mountain SLR | SRAM XX SL AXS | Flight Attendant | 10.28 kg |
Our take: this 9.8 Flight Attendant offers a 170 mm post in XL and 4-piston brakes, at 11.28 kg in M. The 9.9 XX Flight Attendant saves 1 kg with a shorter Fox Transfer SL post.

LVR sizing advice Between two sizes, choose the shorter one for a playful bike in technical sections, the longer one for more stability at high speed. The dropper post goes from 100 mm in S to 170 mm in XL, and the cranks to 175 mm in L and XL.

| Enough travel for descending? | For committed XC, yes; for the bike park, a Top Fuel or Fuel EX will be better suited. |
| Why two different tyres? | Trek pairs a narrower tyre with a 2.4 Maxxis Aspen; we can match them to suit your riding. |
| Which post for my size? | 100 mm in S, 150 mm in M, ML and L, 170 mm in XL. |
| Is the marbling identical everywhere? | No, the effect varies slightly on each frame. |
|
The LVR Cycles verdict A Supercaliber that combines race lightness with real ease on technical ground thanks to its long post and powerful brakes. Its marbled grey gives it a distinctive look.
