The Trek Fuel LX 9 Eagle 90 Gen 7 is not just a descending bike: its 30-tooth chainring and 10-52 cassette let it climb under its own steam, despite its 17.38 kg in a size M. A 170 mm RockShox ZEB Ultimate and a 160 mm Vivid Ultimate on an Alpha NEXT Platinum aluminium frame take care of the rest. The Matte Juniper/Blue Sage Splatter finish combines a matte juniper green with blue sage speckles.

The mountain biker who refuses shuttles and climbs on leg power alone will find a true companion here. This Fuel LX suits those who ride enduro "the old-school way", full loops with plenty of climbing, and want a bike that is stable on the descents without suffering on the climbs.
An alloy frame that adjusts like a race frame. The Fuel LX 9 is built on Alpha NEXT Platinum aluminium, the highest grade of Trek's mountain bike alloys (above Alpha Platinum and Alpha Silver). What sets it apart is the kinematics: the progression can be changed, the rocker link and lower shock mount can be swapped, and the ABP pivot on the rear axle keeps the suspension working under braking.
| Alpha NEXT Platinum (Fuel LX 9) | OCLV Mountain (Fuel LX 9.8) | Alpha Platinum (Slash 8) | |
| Level | Trek's best MTB aluminium, reserved for Gen 7 Fuels | Trek's mountain bike carbon | Aluminium from the range above |
| Construction | Alloy engineered for strength, highly adjustable frame | OCLV layup tuned for impact resistance | Tough alloy, simpler kinematics |
| Reference bike | Gen 7 alloy Fuel EX frameset: 4.95 kg (M) | Gen 7 carbon Fuel EX frameset: 3.31 kg (M) | Complete Slash 8: 16.68 kg (M) |
| What it means | Takes knocks, more affordable | About 1.6 kg less on the frameset | 170 mm alloy enduro, less adjustable |
Put simply: this frame adapts to your riding instead of imposing its own. It is heavier than the OCLV Mountain carbon of the 9.8, but it is more forgiving of impacts and easier to repair.
The secret of an enduro bike that climbs lies first in the position. The Race Face Turbine handlebar with 40 mm rise and the short 45 mm stem keep the upper body high; sliding the saddle slightly back on its rails helps keep the front wheel planted on steep ramps. We adjust these points at handover.
On the suspension side, the Charger 3.2 RC2 damper lets you firm up the low-speed compression to limit bobbing when pedalling. The Vivid Ultimate stays active, which preserves rear-wheel traction on the technical, rocky climbs of the Espinouse.
| Model | Frame | Drivetrain | Travel rear / front | Weight (M) |
| Fuel MX 9 Eagle 90 | Alpha NEXT Platinum alloy | Mechanical SRAM Eagle 90 | 150 / 160 mm | 16.78 kg |
| Fuel LX 9 Eagle 90 | Alpha NEXT Platinum alloy | Mechanical SRAM Eagle 90 | 160 / 170 mm | 17.38 kg |
| Fuel LX 9 X0 AXS | Alpha NEXT Platinum alloy | Wireless SRAM X0 AXS | 160 / 170 mm | n/a |
| Slash 8 | Alpha Platinum alloy | Mechanical Shimano XT | 170 / 170 mm | 16.68 kg |
Our take: for riders who climb a lot, this LX 9 Eagle 90 remains 600 g heavier than the MX 9 Eagle 90. The Slash 8 drops to 16.68 kg, but it is more aggressive with 170 mm at the rear.

| Does it really climb? | Yes, at a steady pace: the 30 x 52 and the upright position make climbing easier. |
| How do I limit bobbing? | Firm up the fork's low-speed compression; we will show you how. |
| What dropper travel? | 150 mm in S, 170 mm in M, 200 mm in L and XL. |
| Does the matt green show the dirt? | It hides dust well; a rinse with water is enough after mud. |
